Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? You can learn from other players feedback and from their experiences. Why the THP poker forums? We offer one of the best managed texas holdem poker forums available, and the community within is far more friendly than those typicaly found on other sites. - Estimate (my own preference)
- Use a calculator
- Use an application that plugs into your poker client (violates some T&Cs).

The 2/4 rule is a good estimator (for 10 or less outs). After 10, it's a little less accurate and a fudge factor is needed.
How it works: Count the number of outs you have on the flop. Your approximate percentage for hitting the hand with one of those outs is 4 X (number of outs)% by the river. If you're figure outs and percentages on the turn, the multiplier is 2 X.
Example:
Have flopped bottom two pair - think I'm facing a str8. This gives me 4 outs. I'll hit my boat 16% (approx) of the time by the river. Same situation on the turn, approximately 8% of the time.

so that means if i have one card to get a straight after the flop, on the turn the prob. of getting it is 16% but on the river it would be 8%?
by the way how accurate is this?

Not exactly. You would have a 16% chance to hit it on either the turn or the river. Once you're down to just the river you only have an 8% chance.
