Posted Sat Sep 03, 2005 6:32 pm GMT by JustLiv
We have a game at my friends house now where around 6-8 players play and I never know when to try to bluff because im always afraid of them all calling it because the way most of em play they would.

Its a No limit game with 4375 in chips(dont ask my friend is weird) 5$ buy in and everybody is so loose they will call anything so I don't even try to bluff Sad

Don't bluff. Typically, you want to play the opposite of how the table is playing. If the table is loose, bluffing won't work (as you assumed). If the table is tight, it's a little easier to bluff, but if you get called/reraised pre or postflop, get out.

Play tighter than a duck's ass and as soon as you get AA, KK, QQ or AKs, get all your chips in the middle one way or another. That's some +EV advice right there Razz

Bluff isn’t compulsory in poker, it’s a means to profit from tight players because they wont pay you off on your strong hands. If they always call there’s no need to bluff because they will pay you off on your strong hands (which is safer).

Later, when the game get short handed you’ll need to get more aggressive but don’t confuse this with bluffing. You will be playing poorer cards but the reduced competition increases the chance you’re ahead.

General Bluffing Advice:
Don’t try and bluff if you think the person is likely call. Obvious but some people still miss it.
Try to bluff with outs, i.e. semi-bluff. E.g. Betting a draw hand.
Try to avoid attempting to bluff if there’s more than one player in the hand.
Make intelligent bluffs. E.g. On scary cards or after you’ve represented strength but missed.
Try to judge the size of your bluff bets by observing what people fold to at the table.

See the Book of Bluffs for that, quite a good book on the subject if you ask me. Got good review on the net as well.

Wow loon, you had nothing and the guy folded w/JJ. That's a really nice buy lol. I loved the side talk, too. No one ever does that at any of my tables. Crying
