Knowing how much money is in the pot

Posted Tue Sep 06, 2005 3:58 am GMT by starfishblue
Okay.. limit hold'em, i wanna calculate pot odds... so how much is in that pot *peeks over at splashed pile* hmmm can't really see how many chips are in there ~

do i just think how many people went in the pot, and how many raises there were, and count them on my fingers etc..?

I mean, if you only count if you are on a heart draw, it might look a bit obvious.

Or should you make a mental count with each call and raise before you see the community cards? It's too much thought to take acocunt into everything?

Or should you just guess?

This is one advantage of playing on-line.

In live play I just estimate or ask. Since I play PL tourneys asking how much is in the pot doesn’t necessarily mean you’re trying to work out the pot odds for a draw, since most players ask that when they’re considering a pot size (maximum) raise.

In you’re case, since you’re playing FL, I’d think it would be easiest just to keep a running to total in you head as people bet. Or you could still ask, just mixed it with times when you’re not on a draw to avoid people getting a read on you.

yeah, i am pretty good at math so I just keep a running total. 1 guy bets $10, 3 callers, so $40+blinds and so on. this is what I find the easiest for me, but you can usually just estimate it close enough to get an answer about your odds.

All you have to do is after each of the betting rounds count the number of people in the hand with how many bets went.

EG. You raise pre-flop and get 1 other caller plus the blinds. (Playing $2/4)
4 players - 2 bets each - $8
Flop - You bet, 2 fold, 1 call - $4
