Push/Fold

Playing in a 32 man tourney at a frat house earlier this week, go college! Top 4 get paid. Down to the final 7, the blinds are at 200/400, and I've got about 3K behind me. Six of the seven players (including myself) have about the same amount of chips varying from 2K - 4K ish. Nobody is so short stacked that its obvious they are going out in a round or two. The big stack has somewhere around 10 - 15K in chips (somewhere around there ... he was rich, lol).

The big stack is difficult to read. I saw him make a few all in calls with Jack 10 at an earlier table, but then I watched him play pocket Queens two hands in a row (lost one to a bad beat, second to a 'normal' beat).

Big stack is UTG, he min-raises to 800. I look down at pocket 9s two spaces after him. What's your play here?

Fold.

I think position is important here.
Judging from his position and the size of the raise I’d probably put him on a hand like AKo-ATs. Basically two overcards.
Judging from your position there are still players to act behind you and even if you isolate him with the all-in you’ll probably end up in a race.

I think I’d let it go but I’m a bit conservative. Maybe if I was in a later position I’d just go for a call but that’s probably way off.

Depends if you want to gamble or not.

Does he have over pair, over cards, or an under pair.

Not sure how you can tell from the action which one he has...

But since it is the big stack & it's a min raise, I would propably take my chances & push, hoping to just take down the 800 or double up.

You have an M of 5 at a short handed table, which means you are not going to see many more hands before the blinds eat you up.

All in or fold.

If he was starting to bullying people a little bit, I may go over the top. If he was remaining tight, I fold here.

99 is playable, but it gets real weak against a preflop raise w/ your tourney at stake.

I would push all-in, but I guess it depends on whether I believed the guy would have the sense to fold to an all-in.

I've played some live tourney's with some pretty big dopes who wouldn't know when to fold if it was written in big neon lights, especially if they have a huge stack in front of them and any two face cards...sometimes even one is good enough!

I'd like to put myself in a spot where there's a decent chance he folds coupled with a decent chance that if he does call, we're at about 50/50. That would give me enough percentage to push. If I'm playing in the live tourney that I'm usually in, then I should probably fold (didn't say "would", but "should" lol). With these guys, I would guess that they would always have two over-cards and never fold. So, in that situation, I'm at best 50/50 and at worst an underdog...and no chance of them giving me the pot without a flop...so sticking to the original point, I would push unless I thought he was an absolute calling station (and with high cards).

If u push I reckon he'd call if he's got a hand like A J, A 10, even KQ. He's already put 800 in and he's big stack. He'd probably take a chance and hope to knock u out.
Its a marginal one. Perhaps its best to fold here and hope for a better oppurtunity. Either that or push and cross your fingers...

If I was playing I would call him and see what the flop produced. If you got your 9 on the flop then get agressive. If not start thinking of backing away from the hand.
