Playing at a frat house 32 man tourney, final table. I'm short stacked on chips 5xBB or so. I look at AK diamonds UTG, so I auto-push. One fold to a buddy on my floor, who practically didn't understand the betting structure before coming to play. He then pushes all in (actually calls as we found out). Fold around to the big stack who has like 7x as much as anybody else at the table. He calls.
So we're counting out the chips and I'm thinking my AK is definetly not good enough here ... I'm hoping somebody made a really bad call here.
My buddy flips over AK spades, big stack flips QQ.
Flop: 8 8 2 rainbow ... looking crappy
Turn: another 8 ... drawing to a 4 outer
River: SUICIDE KING ( )
I couldn't believe it ... so happy to stay alive there and we were luckily all able to shake each others hands and recognize that this one was left up to the poker gods.
Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? Be it by sharing experiences or simply asking for help, participation in a forum helps you focus and keep 'on topic' which will help you improve your game. You can learn from other players feedback and from their experiences. Why the THP poker forums? We offer one of the best managed texas holdem poker forums available, and the community within is far more friendly than those typicaly found on other sites. Shaky river?
Nice story, survival hands in tournaments are the best kicks you get from poker, IMHO.
I just delivered a bad, bad beat too and was going to write about it. But I'll borrow this thread instead of starting a new one. 6-handed, UTG raises 4x. 2 callers MP and my QJs looks good enough to play on the button.
flop 3-5-J
turn - j
This is where fishy and overly tired me finds out I'm probably behind, but stil manage to end up pushing it.
river 5
So I hit a Four-outer too, though mine had a far more fishy beginning than yours.
Good thing I had turned off chat.
Call me Nemo.
