deal with an aggressive player

Posted Fri Sep 09, 2005 6:50 pm GMT by papercut101
I have been playing online for alittle over two months now and just started playing heads up games a few days ago. Almost everyone I have been playing heads up is pretty aggressive but I have been running into players quite a bit who are extremely aggressive, so much that I don't know if aggresssive would even be the word- maniac would be more like it. They literally bet after every single flop NO MATTER WHAT. I can't seem to beat these guys and I'm not sure how to deal with them. I know they are bluffing all the time and so I wait till I get a good hand and then come back at them and sure I win some pots here and there like that but it doesn't take long before they have worn my stack down again.
What is an effective way to deal with ultra aggressive players like this?
Thanks for any help.

I think that if they are still wearing you down you may have to bluff back against them. This could be risky, but if you make sizable reraises even with nothing, the maniac will more than likely lay down his equally bad cards to your bluff.

When you are on the button , you should be raising pre flop imo, with most hands. And you betting the flop, and when you are first to act post flop throw in some check raises, dont be predictable basically.

I was playing with someone like this last night. I stuck around long enough to watch their pattern then I came back at them. This guy would bet after every flop, then, if he continued betting, I figured he had something. If he checked I knew he didnt have anything, BUT even if I did have something I also checked to; 1. Keep him in the game and, 2. Make him think I had nothing. So, when it got to the river he would usually bet something insanely high just to buy the pot, since he was checking I knew he didnt have anything so I raised the crap out of him and I forgot the term for it, I think it's called, "pot heavy?" Anyways, he would always sit and think to himself, "Well, crap, I just put a bunch of money in, I've got to call." I lay down a straight, set, or flush and he lays down nothing giving me all the chips and humiliating himself. Laughing

Take a gamble; just slam 'em all-in before they can bluff you...

Oh...dangit...I'm the other guy.

i am a pretty tight-agressive player? whatever you call it, but anyways in my shoes i am basically a pretty tight player all around, i usually tend to wait for hands and let my opinions know that i am a tight player. usually when i get a hand, i will be extremely agressive. if i pick up AK, i would make a big raise.... whether a hit or no, i will then fire at the pot and hope they fold, so on... since my image is tight, i can often get away with playing hands like 45 suited and hit big. you just have to use the power of position, re-raise a lot if u have anything, or re-raise to get a tell, etc. play ur game, and when u are bigger stack. it allows you to open up and see more flops.
