Tourney play - could use some feedback |

I play almost exclusively in home games, usually tourney style. My roommie and I are avid poker players, and we were hosting an 8 person game with a $20 buyin.
Two people were knocked out, the chip leader (my roommate) is to my right, I'm close behind, with the 3rd place person to the right of the chip leader.
I've got roughly 3500
CL roughly 4300
3rd place roughly 1700
2 more with about 1k-1.3k
Three people were already out, so that left us 5 handed, dealer is the CL.
Blinds were 100-200
I get dealt 8 9 and I limp in.
No pre flop raises, so we go to the flop:
7 A 10
I lead out with a 400 chip raise (2/3 pot) to see where I am. Not a bad open ended straight-flush draw.
The two small stacks fold, the 3rd chip stack goes over the top for all in. The CL then goes all in to try and force me out.
Here's my take: the 3rd chip guy is my old roommate and is a highly mathmatical player, I'd put him on two pair or perhaps trips, so I figure runner runner trips or two pair would be no good (not that I was banking on that), he's getting a bit feisty now that's he's gone from big stack to mid and perhaps a bit on tilt, so I could see him throwing in with two pair or AK, I don't put him on the flush, too low probability for him to make that move. The CL is a very strong player who usually makes excellent reads but gets suckered in with traps every few hands (almost always lays them down though, but usually loses a chunk of cash first). I strongly suspected he hit at least an A, (doesn't pre-flop raise too much) perhaps two pair, doubted trips.
Here's what ended up happening:
I called the all-in, my line of thinking was if I won this hand I'd more than likely win the tournament, I'm a vicious heads-up player and feel that I get stronger as the # of people lessen...taking out the 2nd biggest threat to me and crippling the best player at the table (imo) was worth the ~40%ish chance.
3rd place: 7 10
CL: A 10
Turn: 2
River: 7
3rd place sucks out with the boat on a two outer.
Thoughts?

Who was on the button (the dealer)? I’ll assume you were under the gun.
I’d prefer to play suited connectors from a later position but if the pre-flop action is normally pretty quiet I can understand you risking it and hoping for a good flop.
Probe bet/Semi-bluff on the flop looks fine.
Two players move all-in.
Positive:
You now have good odds on your call.
You don’t have to worry about position on the Turn and River.
If you win you should be able to take first from here easily.
Negatives
There almost no way you can’t be behind right now. You have to hit.
You’re likely up against someone with aces.
You could be up against someone with a better flush draw (this is more common in on-line play) although they might just have one heart.
I think I’d call it and race.

Unless you are up against a set or one of your opponents is on a flushdraw, you should be a favourite to win this hand. And even in a worst case scenario versus A K and AA you have 25% chance of winning. So I'd push my chips into the middle.
