Interesting Night of NL

Posted Fri Sep 16, 2005 2:55 pm GMT by xDiamond_CutteRx
I'm at the casino last night playing $1/$2 NL, and had an interesting series of events. I buy-in for the maximum ($100) and sit down.

I take down a few small pots, lose a few blinds, etc, then I pick up 88 in Late-Middle position. 2 people have limped in before me, so i raise to $7 total to buy the button and get it down to 1 or 2 players. However, SB calls, BB calls, and the two limpers call, leaving a 5-way pot with $35 in it. The flop comes 5 Club 2 Heart 2 Diamond . Great flop for my 8's, and it gets checked to me. I have every intention of taking it down right here and discouraging overcards from drawing, so I bet out $25. SB folds, then BB raises me for his last $16 more. The other players fold. Now, I had believed that with my raise, that flop was unlikely to hit players unless they had an overpair. He might have 33 or 44 and assume I'm bluffing with overs. He might have 55, in which case I'm in big trouble--same for a deuce, but what could he hold with a deuce to call a $5 raise? A2 maybe. It's also possible he has 66 or 77 and believes that flop was great for him, too. He may even have 99 or TT (JJ or better he was the type that would re-raise), or a hand like AK which he believes is best against my supposed overs. With all these possibilities out there, combined with my pot odds, I have to call the $16 more. SB folds. BB turns over Q2o. Confused Oops. But how else could I play it there? I didn't feel too bad about it since I believed I had played it correctly, and that he had played it very incorrectly to call with Q2o.

The next round, I'm on the button with AJs. There have been 2 limpers once again, so this time I put in a bigger raise to whittle the field. I raise to $9. BB calls, and everyone else folds. BB is known to be a fairly tight player whom I have good success reading. Flop comes 3 Club 6 Diamond A Club . She checks to me. I know that she would bet out with an Ace, especially an Ace stronger than mine, so I throw out a continuation bet of $10, leaving with me $28 in my stack. She just calls. Turn comes 2 Heart . I think it's possible now that she has either a weak ace or a flush draw with her call, so I put the screws to her and bet her last $15. She calls, and turns over 33. Oops again. Now I'm down to $13.

A few hands later, I pick up KQs, and 1 person has limped into the pot, so I decide this is a good place to move all-in, since one of my friends had busted out and wanted to go home anyway. I got calls from the two big stacks, but ended up flopping a flush! Needless to say, I tripled up there.

From there, I won several decent pots and built by stack back up to the mid-$60's. Finally I pick up KK. A big stack raised to $6, so I re-raised to $16. Flop came Q63, rainbow. He checks, I bet $25 (he was extremely loose), and he calls. Turn comes a 2. Now he does a curious thing... he looks at my stack of $28 and says, "I'll put you all-in." I wonder now if I've been screwed by Q2 again Laughing , but I'm not going to fold an overpair, so I call. He has AQ, and my Kings hold up. Now I'm up to $123, but all 3 of my friends want to go home. So I stack my chips and head out with my $23 in profit after being down to near-nothing.

diamondcutter- is this at jackson? the time i played 1-2NL it seemed like $10 was the standard pf raise w/limpers, if u bet anyless everyone calls. i would probably have bet 10 bux, just cuz thats a nice pot already. but yup, idiots will call with anything there Laughing
