NL tourney.
Dealt K Q . Called a small raise pre flop. 2 of us see the flop.
Flop was 7 7 K .
Other guy moves all in.
I got twice his stack but I can easilly get away from this hand. Only got 150 chips invested.
Thing is I felt if he had a 7 he probably wouldn't have pushed. Why would he?
Also I felt if he had a King I might have had him out kicked. I didn't feel he had AK.
I actually folded this but my gut feeling was I should have called. What do u think?

I don't have any info on the player in question, but some people do this to make a stand with his hand to avoid being bluffed out of the pot.
If I'm in good shape after calling this and losing, I wouldn't mind doing so. If it is a heavy blow to my stack to lose this, I will look for better occasions.

he doesnt have the 7, at least i really doubt it ... if he has the 7 its actually a nice play because a good player really could never put him on a 7 especially with a bet like that
the hands that beat you here are AK, and AA ... is this the guy the kind of player who would make a small preflop raise with a big hand like AA, because he was hoping to get a caller or two and make some chips off of it?
i can also see this push as a 'frustration' move by QQ or JJ ... but usually people will make bigger preflop raises with these hands since while they are the best hand preflop, they have a very good chance of being beaten after the flop

I didn't think this guy was a particularly great player. I had seen him before and actually had him branded as something of a fish.
I actually had him on a hand like A J or even K J. Thats why I thought I really should have called him.
Trouble is ( as it always is ), I could have been wrong.....

yeah, i think you should have called zeroswarm, i mean I people shouldnt overvalue top pair but in this situation its more likely you are the one winning, its the flop its rainbow and granted the board paired but like previously said with the all in on the flop i seriously doubt hes got it.
X7,AK,AA and KK lol- only 3 hands really that are beating you,you could wait for slightly better oppurtunity though his all in on flop doesnt indicate strength to me, more that hes hoping you havent hit and hes trying to steal it. and i am even more likely to call if i branded him a "fish."
Just my thoughts.

I love doing just that when the flop hits me good. Fire off a huge bet from EP and nobody every believes you'd lead at a pot like that if you're ahead. He may have had a 7, ya never know.
As for calling off half your stack, it's iffy. You obviously have a better read on the player since we weren't there, but you really don't know much about his hand. He raised preflop and then pushed all in on the flop, hard to say what he has. Could be anything from AA-22, or Kx, or complete crap. I'd probably fold as well and wait for a better spot. Unless it's nearing the money spots, then I'd probably call him.

Some interesting points there.
The thing about whacking a huge bet down when u actually DID hit the flop is a play I would term ADVANCED.
It can be a great play, especially against a good player. Thing is I didn't think this guy WAS a great player...
This was still fairly early on and I was sitting second in chips having previously taken down a nice pot. The real reason I didn't call was because I felt it was an unecessary risk to take, given the fact I was in good shape anyhow.
But afterwards I had that sickening kind of feeling....U know the one.....It ONLY comes when u KNOW u just laid down the winning hand....
