Hey, y'all... I finally made up my mind to try real money with micro limits and stuff... But I am increasingly worried about the safety of my Visa. Is it safe to use Visa via the Internet? Has anyone come across any problems so far? Thanks.
Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? Be it by sharing experiences or simply asking for help, participation in a forum helps you focus and keep 'on topic' which will help you improve your game. You can learn from other players feedback and from their experiences. Why the THP poker forums? We offer one of the best managed texas holdem poker forums available, and the community within is far more friendly than those typicaly found on other sites. We've made a 'lurkers edition' of the poker forum available here on Holdem Poker Online, but we encourage all visitors to register and join in on the conversations on TexasHoldem-Poker.com

Short answer Yes.
Long answer, it doesn’t matter if someone gets hold of your details anyway since most CC companies will reimburse you for any fraud that occurs.

you can always hook yourself up with neteller or something and make deposits directly from your bank account rather than your CC.

They probably will.. but you will first have to settle a couple of questions, which I am not eager to do
Thanks for the Neteller idea, I guess I would make good use of that. But how do I start the account?

well just go to neteller.com and read the instructions. do you want us to wipe your butt for you too? i'm just kidding.

Personally, I use neteller since my bank wont let me deposit to a poker site.
Also, with all the free checking account deals these days, I am going to open up an account to my day to day stuff (direct deposit, paying bills) and use my current checking account strictly for poker.

OK. Thank you ever so much!!! Now I know where I stand and just found it all out about Neteller... I was amazed when I saw that nearly all the poker sites accept deposits from it ))) Hurray!

FYI: most CC companies will not let you put money on a poker site or any gambling site.

Really? Ladbrokes, William Hill and Betfair took my CC.

Okay I’ll rephrase, all of the poker or gambling site’s I’ve used have accepted CC. So from my perspective most do.

Party used to take my visa. They stopped about a month ago citing no real reason. Pacific ditto, i think. Eurobet lets me, but it takes alot more effort. Neteller for the win.

Party took my Visa a couple of weeks ago when i created an account for the Freeroll. I loaded it up with $100 just to make sure it was a money account.
Suitedaces knows his stuff so I’m sure there are a lot of places that don’t take CC’s but from my perspective if anyone asked me I’d say the opposite.

When I mentioned a couple of questions I am not too eager to settle, I meant refunding and stuff... I mean, if swindlers get hold of your CC account, you'll have to prove that and what then? The money would be gone anyway Or is it so just with my bank?

I think it may have to do with whether or not it's a bank card vs credit card. And they may be just the U.S.banks that don't allow it. I've tried to use three different check cards to set up an account and non of them worked.
It's kind of senseless since I can set up an IMG or netteller account with the very same accounts. I just can't deposit directly to party. My main point was if it says "your card has been declined...blah blah blah" that's pretty standard.

Have you ever bought anything online using a CC? Depositing money on a poker site is no different.

It is a HSBC Visa card. Or by bank card do you mean Debit card?
Peter Piper, most of the time a healthy amount of cynicism toward big businesses is a good thing but in this case I think your underestimating the importance a CC company places on customer satisfaction and retention.
They’re not looking to rob you...they already do they with an inordinate interest rate

By the way just so that people know, you can withdraw from Victor Chandler onto a Mastercard. I spoke to a very useful person at support there and they said that Mastercard's rule about not withdrawing to their cards doesn't apply to UK people. I tried it and it worked fine :D

And some days I heard you can withdraw from GenoTHP without a problem ...

The problem I have with using a credit card is that the few times I tried it, the credit card company treated it like a cash advance and tacked on a $20 service fee.
Neteller is the way to go for me.

Awww ... sorry Geno.
I will refrain, and merely encourage others to bust on you, ok?

Hey geno, I'm kinda short this month.. I was just wondering...

You'll never, ever live it down, Geno.
That statement about the UK is true. I think since the UK regulated online gaming, cc companies aren't scared about allowing gaming transactions. In the US though, where online gaming is still legally grey, it's hit or (usually) miss whether a cc company allows it.
In the US though, we've got the Credit Card Protection Act. If anyone illegally uses your card, you don't have to pay for it. Banks usually don't mention that, but have to oblige if you bring it up. At least that's how it worked three years ago when I had to know that sorta thing. There's some issues about negligence and stuff, but that's basically it.
Dunno if yins Brits have a similiar thing.

I don't know the proper name for it over here but with every credit card comes insurance. Generally, any transaction over £100 (about $180 to you plebs) is insured and if fraudulent will be refunded
