I know several people have posted about this subject before but I feel I have to do it again. This is the best advice I can offer newbies to online poker. DO NOT DRINK AND PLAY POKER ONLINE.
Saturday afternoon the wife and I decide to spend some quality time drinking a few and playing some online poker (SNGs mainly). I play and she watches and gives input plus asks questions. Well needless to say after a 5th of Wild Turkey all the cards start looking good to you. I wasn't drunk. Far from it actually. But I was buzzed enough that my judgement was heavily affected. I was staying in to see the flop with 26o and other crappy hands like that. Yes I did hit on a few of them and did push some people out but for the most part getting loaded and playing online hurt me bad. I turned a 3:1 ITM ratio into a 1:1 plus lowered my poker account by half.
Note to the mods: If you feel this should go under online poker feel free to move it. Please do so quietly as my head still hurts from Saturday and then a repeat of the drinking on Sunday.
Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? As we are on the subject... Don't drink and drive either!

I will say this on the counter-point: If you get nervous and too tight before on online game, 1-3 drinks will help you loosen up a little bit and relax. Getting drunk, on the other hand, will destroy your roll.

lol,,,ok xhi I can call it that way as well. Either way the point is poker and drinking do not mix well for most people.

Haha! I like the topic! Though I like drinking wine and playing online. In fact I'm too tight - wine helps me to play a little bit looser.

Well, I never drink and play. Drinking turns me into fish straight away!!! I loosen so bad, that it's just not funny, it gets so hard to concentrate. I tried it once only and will never try again
