Vegas Trip

Posted Thu Sep 29, 2005 1:04 pm GMT by bloodshotx
I am thinking about booking a flight for the first time to vegas. It will be like 3 weeks down the road.

The cheapest flight+hotel combination I have found is the four queens for 440 dollars. I would fly out 7am on a friday morning and come back early monday morning.

What do you guys think about the four queens? I don't plan in sitting in my room at all. I will be playing tourneys and cash games all the time.

Where are you leaving from?

If you want cheap, look at booking plane and hotel separately. If you dont mind being off the strip (by a few blocks), you can stay Orleans for $30-40/night if you play 4 hours of holdem a day there. Imperial Palace is usually cheap too.

I dont know anything about Queens (being purely hetro and all).

The 4 Queens is a good place. The rooms are not too bad and Freemont Street has allot to offer. The Golden Nugget is accross the street and offers a good poker room. The Horseshoe (Formally known as Bionions Horseshoe) is cadycorner from it. The Horseshoe has some good tables for blackjack. I never got to check out their poker room. The benefits of downtown are cheap and good meals, no cab far or car rental needed and plenty to do.

The strip does offer better quality places such as Belagio, Cesars Palace, The MGM Grand and many others. The problem with the strip is traffic. Both auto and pedestrian. One place I recommend if you want cheap gambling is the Boardwalk on the strip. $3 blackjack tables all day long. The great thing about Vegas and it's casinos is FREE ALCOHOL. You can save a fortune right there if you like to drink. The best poker tables are at the Belagio though. The two best are Belagio and Golden Nugget in my opinion.

The 4 queens is the typical downtown casino. Its a little older and a lot less glitz than the casions on the strip. If you are going just to play and you aren't worried about the whole "vegas experience" then downtown is nice. My family always stays downtown. There are a bunch of casinos right in walking distance and the casino staff tend to be a little more friendly. As for the poker, i've only played at the Nugget and the Plaza. Both have daily tournamnets and the Nugget always seemed to have a 3/6 game going when I wanted to play.

Yeah, if you like to party it up in downtown, then go for it down there. Especially if you don't care about the Vegas experience and what not.... that is, if you plan to just play poker and have fun, stay downtown. They have a few tournies out there that are definitely worth checking out.
