Running out of money quick? |

Hey guys,
I have just got into the online poker world
and am just playing the freeroll tourny's at royal vegas.
well when i just started i was doing real well, came 11th on out of 600, and 20. out of 600.
they were my first 2 games, but after that it all went down hill, now im coming no better then 350th.
I have read a few websites on general betting structure, and the pretty much say if you dont have high cards (the 2 you are dealt, forgot what thats called already, poket or something)
then fold, So i tried doing that and just run out of money as the tourny goes to higher levels.
like even if you get to level 5 where it is 75/150 you cant even really afford the anti, when you keep folding everything that isn't a 10.10, A.A, A.K, J.J or whatever.
so any idea's on what else i can do, its got me stuffed.
p.s sorry i dont know all the lingo, and what things are called, heh i will soon, i promise.

Freerolls make their money off of rebuys so they give you a pretty low starting stack. That's just the way it is . . . there is a little luck in surviving the early rounds of one.

Since it is a freeroll, I would have to ask the following questions: How often are the blinds raised? What is the blind structure? What are your starting chips?
In the $1 tourneys where I play, the blinds are raised every 5 hands. If you don't see any cards in the first 2 orbits (very possible), you've got around T900 left (from a starting T1000) and facing blinds of 30/60 (Level 5) and soon to reach 50/100 (I always cringe if I reach this point and yet to win a pot). Your level 5 is 75/150, while we don't reach 75/150 until Level 7.
If the blinds in your freeroll are accelerated like that one, then you have to adjust your strategy. Normally (with a slower rate of increase of the blinds) you can be patient and wait for premium hands. Here, you can't be or you be will short stacked and blinded off. Even if you can manage to double up, you are still well below the average stack. In this type of situation, you are going to have to play more than the Top 10 hands. You have to get into the game and win some pots and build your stack quickly when the blinds are raised so quickly.
