Hi, Im new here. Finally decided to to join the forums because this is one of the better forums I found. Anyway back on topic.
Lets say i have a jack and a eight (suites dont matter) and my friend has a jack ten.Now the flop comes AA653 (once again suites dont matter). Ok were both playing the pair of aces with jack kicker. Ok heres were the dispute begin my friend says that he wins because his kicker of jack and the ten beats my Jack eight. I said that its a split pot because we both have the same hand (Pair of aces jack kicker) but he insist that he wins because we must go down to our second best kicker if our first kicker is the same.Hopefully I didnt confuse you.Now who is right my friend or I.
Thanks in advance.

In most forms of poker, you use the best 5 card hand you can make. So if you have J8 and your opponent has JT w/ a board of AA653, your hand is AAJ86 and his is AAJT6 where 'T' stands for ten. The T is a better kicker than the 8, so your opponent wins. Click here for more information on kickers.
