Howard I've told you before!

Stop pretending to be a "Guest" to try and sell your video!!

Laughing

Fenwick: It is a very good video to have/watch if you are a beginner, it has some very good tips and also shows a little stuff about setting up a home game.
Don't buy it if you are looking for more advanced insights from the master tho.
Saying that i consider myself intermediate and there were still a couple ideas i use now in it

this video is no good unless you've got NEWBIE stamped on your forehead...about 50% of the video (its 90 mins total) tells you how to play your home game...there is a section about pre flop play...i guess its kind of usefull...howard never suggests just calling pre flop...you could save yourself a lot of money and just have someone e-mail you his strategy chart...theres not much in the way of post flop play at all...i downloaded it so it wasnt a big deal but you could really make a more valuable investment buying a good book...but hey...howard is the man so i guess its alright

These are my observations after viewing the video - Just my opinions Smile

- In the first few hands, he deals the cards up. The decisions he cites have absolutely no bearing on decisions that are made if you cannot see other players' cards. For example, I'd see the flop on an A 10 almost every time.

- He cites that very call/raise after a QQ raise would only be made by players who can beat that. In an absolutely ideal situation that's true, but the calls/raises in Hold 'em are from ideal when you don't see others players' cards.

- He does not cover Internet gaming, but I assume that was not as popular as when the video was made?

- I did not get any of the reference sheets he refers to in the video. Blame that on the company that shipped the video I guess. Smile

- "'Weak means strong' and 'strong means weak'. That was probably true in classic tourneys and home games, but it has absolutely no bearing on what most people play now and when he video was produced -- ONLINE HOLD'EM.

Those are just my opinions. Comments are welcomed. Smile Don't get me wrong, Howard is a GREAT player, in fact one of my favorites, I just questioned some of the things he said in the video. Smile Ah what do I know, he's won 2 WPT championships so I have no right to criticize a thing he says. lol

This is a video meant, obviously, for beginning players. But the strategies that Howard teaches are very advanced; strategies that would serve most players well at, say, $20-40 limit, or in a large tournament where the play is very high caliber.

In your average home game, and especially playing online, if you go all in with Q-Q, you can reasonably expect someone will try their luck and call you with A-4s. Not so in, say, the WSOP. Same deal with calling a raise in late position with A-Jo when there's already been one caller. This is a play that most everyone makes in a home game or online, but it's a horrible decision when playing against professionals.

That, to me, was the thrust of the video -- teaching the beginning player to make correct decisions at a high level. Seems like Howard wants some more amateurs to play against in the 2005 WSOP.

Calling a raise when there's already been a caller in late position with AJo is a bad move? I must have a lot to learn...
