Hey Guys,
Went to Vegas this past weekend. Played the $60 tourney Saturday morning at 10am. 39 players total.
Total invested $110.00 w/rebuy & add-on.
Finished 4th at about 2:30pm. I was pretty pumped about it. My brother says I played too tight after I had made it in the money. Paid out 5 spots.
With 5 left, I've got about 18,000 (I'm 3rd)
Two short stacks, one guy with about 5K and the other about 2K.
The guy with 5K is first to act and goes all-in (I'm gonna call with AQ off but before I do the guy in 2nd place with about 25K goes all-in, the guy to my right (2K) folds, and I'm thinking...
This guy with 2K will be out soon, if this other guy with 5K loses, and I'm pretty sure the 2nd caller who went all-in must have pretty good cards. Then I'm sure to get 3rd place at least.
So I fold.
First guy shows 10 10, second guy shows A K, I'm pretty glad I folded now....flop A Q 4
My A Q would've won, did I play it too tight?
Any advice? 4th place paid out $310.00 (my first casino tourney)
Thanks

Good lay down. You want someone putting that shortie all in, no need for you to get involved too.
If he had just called, maybe you see a flop, IF he seems like the kind of guy to check down and not try and push you off the dead pot.
Dont mess w/ big stacks in the money unless you are sure you have them or know that it wont cost you much.

Just the shorty going all in, easy call.
With a bigger stack re-raising all in, it's an easy laydown. He's pretty much telling the rest of the table "Save your chips, I've got a huge pair or AK." Even though you would have won, it was still a good lay down.

Nice work, downtown is nice to me and the strip hates me for poker tourneys. Take that 300 bucks to the Nugget for the $100 rebuy at about 7pm next time you go

I agree with Dave and Nut. You made a nice lay down. As nut said the big stack was saying I got a good hand so let me take care of this guy when he went All-in. Had he just called the short stack I might have jumped in on the hand. To me he would be saying I do not have a big hand but I might have the short stack beat. That would give me reason to jump in with the AQ. That is my personal opinion.
Again the main point is you made a good lay down. Had you called the all-in as well and the Q not hit on the flop, then it would be a battle of kickers and you wouldn't of won.

Thanks everyone,
I thought at the time it was a good laydown. And pre-flop I was saying, "Thank God" I let that go.
But then my brother was giving me a hard time about it...then again he finished in about 25th place. So, what the hell does he know...lol
As a matter of fact, the guy I spoke about who was short with 2K actually ended up winning the whole thing. He went all-in like three times, the big stacks called and he doubled up each time. What a game!
I was first to bet and went all-in with pocket 10's, pre-flop...(with just four players I thought that was a decent move). One guy called he had QQ. Oh well.
Thanks again, great forum.

Hey there good laydown as well. It's tough to let it go... been there myself... it's nice to see though when someone else is holding the ace that would have helped you.
How did you like the glowing final table? And btw where are you located?

i would lay down AQ in a shot pretty much... but if the hand was suited... then i believe i would of called.
overall its just a good lay down because AQ isn't that good of a hand especially in that position.
but such a bad payout. 310 dollars... sometimes i just hate tourneys. with 110 bucks, i would of gladly played some lower stakes cash game and try to win some money.
