So when you are playing Texas Holdem and there is a straight on the table, who wins. The person holding the best hand when you ignore the straight? The person with the only card matching a card in the straight? Others? Or do you split the pot?

Ex. Three guys were in. Straight on the table was 5 6 7 8 9. On guy held pair of twos. Other had a 7, J. A third had Ace and 3. What do you do. If there is any documentation out there, Please give it to me.

in holdem... each player must make their best 5 card hand. this means that if that best 5 card hand is on the board... that's what they use.

in the case you describe above... all 3 would have the 9 high straight. all 3 would then split the pot. their hole cards don't help them at that point.

if someone had a 10... it would be different... because they then would have the higher straight. but that wasn't the case.

First of all...was there any chance of anyone having a flush? You didn't mention so I will assume there wasn't...

In poker the best hand that can be played is the winner and unless someone hit a flush the pot is split three ways because the best five card hand for everyone was a straight..

Thanks, these were my thoughts as well. No one had a flush. Just a straight and the hands described above.

I had a monster pot at a live casino game against a very aggressive player. We capped preflop, post flop and the turn. We ended up splitting the pot on the river after the board made a 5-9 str8.

I had AA he had KK-the river cost me over $100. Even though I didnt lose, I am still angry about that one.
