Need your opinions.

My brother just asked my opinion about this hand and I thought I would share it with you.

.05/.10 NL Hold-em. He is on the button.

He gets JQs with nine Shocked limpers in front of him.
He raised 3xBB and ended up with 3 callers... so that would make the pot... ummm... $2.20.

The flop comes KQT rainbow. He bet $2.00 (edited because he told me the wrong amount.) and all three called.
The turn is a 6. No flush draw. He checked the turn, one guy goes all in for $1.50, he calls, and the remaining two players call.
The river is an Ace so he goes all in for $2.00 and the remaining 2 players also call.

He wins the hand and the name calling begins. His question is, was the turn call a bad call? If I did the math correctly, I think his turn call was marginal, but not horrible. He said he put the "all-in" player on two-pair so I counted the two remaining queens as an out.

a. yes he sucked out on them
b. they never gave him a chance to fold
c. he had the odds, $10 in the pot after the flop, 1.50 to win a $11.50 pot (after the all in ... not counting the two over calls) gives him something like 7 to 1 on his call
d. if they're bitching about a "suck-out" like this at .05/.10 poker they need to grow up ... i have 1 outers hit a bunch @ $1/$2 stud

Soup, no offense, but you've got to stop posting every hand someone gets b*tched out for. This, like the last hand you posted (if I remember correctly) isn't even close. The odds of hitting a gutshot alone justify the turn call, Salche already pointed that out.

rant
Why do you respect the opinions your oppoents? Do you think they're better than you? If so, why are you playing them for real money?

Believe me, I've caught my fair share of grief. Occasionally it's for something stupid, but it's usually for something that was correct or very close to correct. And it's never a good player, it's a terrible player who just doesn't get why someone would raise a flush draw or make some other basic play that isn't crystal clear. I don't bother explaining this things because 1) they're is no reason I want the other player to know 2) even if I did offer a simple explaination the berater wouldn't listen or understand.

I run HUD programs at my tables (they display other players' stats). The helpful table coaches/bad beat whiners/beraters or others' play are always 30/4/1 (which is really terrible in FL). It's a perfect example of why you shouldn't pay attention to them.

what would 48/x/5 mean?

Posted Mon Oct 24, 2005 6:55 pm GMT by suitedaces84
It means you're the man.

OK, if anyone trys to say low limit plays the same as higher limit again, do I have permission to shoot them?

THE MAN. I actually read somewhere that VPIP was directly proportional to penis size.

Sure, I can understand what your saying. Your right that each of my hand postings is about someone ranting about me. By the same token, this is probably only the third hand I've posted Since I joined. (I reply to a lot, but I don't post very many of my own.)

I posted this one because he asked my opinion. I told him I thought he had made the right play.

That makes alot of sense for me, actually.

Another question suitedaces... why would I post hands that I already feel like I played correctly? That seems kind of stupid. The only hands I'm going to want to post are those where someone feels like I played it incorrectly. That way I can try and learn and get better. I'm not blessed with your infinite wisdom.

Sorry if I came off like an ass (I tend to do that). My point wasn't stop posting hands you're cluttering the board. I'm aware that you rarely do start threads. My point was don't let the chatbox influence your opinion on a hand. I'm sure you and your brother have played a ton of more interesting hands than that one. And have had to make much tougher decisions than a open ended straight that was getting 7:1.

LMAO! Ok, point taken. :D

Shiiiiit. 9 limpers.

And I'm the only thinking suited Ace-Rags would be so awesome in these games?

Those people who berate other peoples play are usually the ones who do not understand pot odds. Like Salche said it is hard to fold when they give you the odds to keep playing and you have the cards to do so.

The 2-10 split game I have been playing is a bit like this. I am still working out what the best plan of attack should be, but for the time being, I think you do one of 2 things, raise max (or in NL-big raise) or limp too.

W/ 9 callers, any small raise will just keep everyone in and give them pot odds to chase. You are better off seeing a flop and hoping for 2 pair/trips/str8 or flush. Top pair is worthless. If you do hit the flop nicely, isolate down to 1-2 players ASAP. Check raise or come out big right away.
