I don't get Celebrity Poker |

I can't see the point of celebrity poker on T.V
I watched a program the other night. There was John McCrirrick the T.V racing presenter or whatever he is.
Two comedians I have never heard of, one male and one female.
A Cricketer and a guy called Victor who appeared in some trash show called Big Brother and that gives him the status of CELEB!!!!
The cricketer had some knowledge of play as did McCrirrick but the rest were dire.
It was mostly calling and nothing much else apart from the moment when the comedian guy raised all-in against Victor for 300 and Victor came back with "Raise" .
And one play where Victor only had Q high after the river, and called too a minimum bet, the commentator said "Victor is going for the Bluff"
It's absolute rubbish to watch and I can't see the point of it getting airtime.
I think it devalues poker and my wife who does not play said "I can't understand why you enjoy playing, it seems so boring" and she had a point if Celebrity Poker is your insight to the game.
Wondering what anyone else thinks of this kind of Poker TV.

I'll watch it the odd time. But it all depends on which celebs they have on. Seen a couple that had people I was interested in seeing ie. Jerome Bettis, Norm Macdonald....

I'll watch it if they have good comedians on it, but for poker value it's rather poor. Two of the funniest Celebrity Poker episodes were with Brad Garett(Everybody Loves Raymond) and Jack Black. Brad Garrett is just funny as hell, no matter what he is doing. And the episode where Jack Black pulled out those giant clown size sunglasses had me rolling, I always wanted to get a pair of those for a game. He just beat me to it.
Celebs I hate to watch are any female talk show host, namely Rosie. But I think the most annoying celebrity player out there has got to be James Woods. That guy never shuts his mouth, I think some riddlin would seriously help his game.

james woods thinks he's amazing at poker. his skills are that of an average know it all on the web, at best.
i like the shows though. they're usually funny and entertaining enough. basically just sticking 6 good celebs at a table and watching them TALK is funny enough when you have good personalities, but those that watch it for the wrong reasons are going to be disappointed.
anyone that doesn't see them as a good thing for "smart players" BUSINESS-wise, however, is missing the bigger picture.

John McCririck (sp?) makes my skin crawl, I despise the man! His poker abilities are ok but he is nothing special and a complete moron

Yeah, fair enough. But leave out the Poker.
I want to see Poker with real Poker players.
It's Celebrity everything these days. And they are not even celebs, they're Z rate.
But I would not object to celebrity bomb disposal :D

Well, sometimes it is funny, and sometimes it has Jennifer Tilly.
There ya' go.

i actually started out hating the show, the celebrities weren't celebrities... the poker was garbage, but i eventually started to like it as they brought in better celebrities and sometimes it was fun to watch.
phil gordon makes the show a bit better with his advices which i love to hear.
overall the show isn't as bad, but still sucks
but i watch it anyways.

I saw one a while ago with some okay faces; Steve Davis, Jimmy White, Ricky Gervais and Steven Fry, among others. The poker was terrible, but as supafrey said it’s just about them being together. Rather like celeb Big Brother, cheap television.
Piers Morgan did a good series on how celebrity has been corrupted into a state where, some people these days are just famous for being famous.

I noticed his name down on the WSOP list, along with some other celebs; Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and Edward Norton. I think they were all 450 to 1.

Isn’t he the patron saint of tasteless jewellers?

Yes, but his full title is Patron Saint of Bling and Greatgrandaddy of Chav.

One thing confused me about him when I saw him play. He’s a profession racing pundit with an obvious knowledge of gambling and odds yet when paying cards he makes some awful plays with regards to the pot odds. Go figure.

It's dreadful - but if it gets more suckers in the game then I'm all for it.

What I like is honestly I find it more fun and informative to watch people who aren't so aware of what they are doing.
