Posted Fri Oct 28, 2005 6:24 pm GMT by Skribbles
Headin out the door for my first poker experience at a casino. I've played a hell of a lot of home games, but never at the casino. Going to be playing $4/8 and hopefully crushing the table.

I'll post results later on.

Note: Miss J, if you happening to be at the Cash tonite I'll be the guy in the Winnipeg Jets hat.

Worst.Players.Ever.

To start, after about 4 hours, I was down $7 but I had drank 7 Corona's so I guess I was technically up about $30 or so playing.

This game was full of complete call stations. Every hand 7-9 players would see the flop with at least 3 going to showdown. It was ridiculous.

Couple hands from the night;

1) Dealt QQ UTG in a kill round. I make it $16 to go and get 8 callers!!!! Not what I was hoping for. Flop came Q63. SB leads out for $8, BB calls, I raise and the ENTIRE table calls. Turn was 9. SB leads again. BB calls. I raise to $32... 3 cold-callers + the blinds. WOW. River A. No flushes. No straights. Unless someone was holding AA I'm laughing. SB bets again, I raise, 4 callers!!!!

Showdown:

SB: A3 (lead out with his pair of 3's and caught 2 pair on the river)
BB: A7 (Chased an ace to the river)
Me: QQ (Flopped set)
MP: A9 (2 pair on river)
LP: 63 (flopped 2 pair)

2) I'm BB with A4. 6 other people see the flop. A94. SB leads, I raise, everyone calls. Turn 7. I open, 3 callers. River 3. I open, 2 callers, button raises. I call as does everyone else. Sure enough the button was playing 52 offsuit and chased a gutshot to the river.

3) This hand really pissed me off. I'm on the button with KTs. 3 limpers, I raise to hopefully push the blinds out. No luck. 6 of us see the flop. AQJ. Flopped the nut straight with a royal/straigh flush draw. Betting is capped on the flop with 4 players. Turn is 2 putting 2 Club and 2 Spade on the board. Capped again. River 4 Club . Didn't hit my flush but as long as someone didn't hit a runner-runner flush I'm good. The river is 3-bet.... dumb ass whore of a calling station takes it down with her 56 of clubs.

So anyway, I took down a couple massive pots but didn't adjust my game enough to play against these HORRID players. I wasn't getting the cards and when I did, I got sucked out a couple times. I have seen tighter .25/.50 games online than this. I'd bet the average pot would be about $100+.

Definitly a game that I could get used to. There was only 1 other decent player at the table and that was the guy I went with. The rest of the table was AWFUL. 4 ladies that seen every flop and pretty much went to showdown each time. 3 old men (60+) who would play any face card and if they hit a pair, raise it and re-raise it.

This was a poker table full of gambooolers. No "good" plays would work. A UTG raise was always followed by 4-5 callers at least. I'd try to isolate someone pre-flop by 3-betting. 3-4 would cold call the 3 bets.

I can't decide if I want to cash out my online bankroll so I can afford to play higher stakes and hopefully find a game where their isn't 8 people seeing flops. Or adjust my game beat the hell out of these call stations.

Do they have NL tables there with similar players?

Casino play is totally like this. About a week ago, I played some 4/8 at the Bellagio, and this couple sat down.... guy with a Hawaiian shirt and 70's moustache and his pleasantly plump blonde wife. The guy next to me, a pretty good home game playa from Alaska, looked at me and kinda smiled. He straight up said, "They wear there tells like signs around their necks." I started laughing.

Funny thing is there was this one hand I was out of, and the woman was watching her play one of the old rock regulars. I could tell she really liked her hand... so I said to her, "You can go all-in." She just said very enthusiastically, "Oh, okay, then I'm all in then." I almost fell over laughing.

Not sure how the play is, but they do have a $1/2 NL and if there is enough demand a $2/5.

I have said forever that online 5/10 is harder than live 8/16 or 10/20.

From my limited live experience, $.50/1 online is tougher than $4/8 live.

Well if the play is similar you might find it easier since the betting limit seems to be preventing you punishing them for their mistakes. It’s an aggressive/risky way to play but as long as you have a bankroll to support the variance it should be profitable.

I don’t know, maybe it’s a hole in my game I should work on. I see a player continually calling with any junk and just want to teach him why that’s a bad idea.

So much for “you can shear a sheep many times but skin him only once” Smile
