You can make the dealer count it. I had this happen to me in Vegas. I didn't say a word and just looked at the dealer, and she counted it out.

Everytime I have seen this done in live play the dealer or a tournament director has counted them. They usually won't ask players to because a player can try to cheat by inflating the amount.

hmm.... I never ever thought about a player saying that they have a little bit more than they actually have. I guess i'm too much of a straight arrow. I've always thought of it as the player all in wanting to conceal as much info as possible by not speaking.

Actually this brings up an interesting question... who here likes to talk while there still in the hand? Not about the hand directly of course since that's illegal, but like to mess with your oppenent. Personally I just sit back and while I have a hand I'm only either saying raise or nothing. However it seems I end up making a couple of table friends through meaningless banter while not engaged in hands.

I talk. It helps me to get a read on players.

If someone asked me my chip count after I’d moved all-in I doubt they’d be satisfied with me simply quoting a number.

Normally I take the question as them asking me to split my stacks up into something they can count from where they're seated.

Then again I usually play self dealt tourneys where the dealer doesn’t have any responsibility to sort out this kind of thing.
