i won a live tourney!!!!!!

Posted Sat Oct 29, 2005 8:40 am GMT by jonesyb
last night. does wonders for the ol confidence....

some public house in preston, about 20 miles from where i live. 20 people entered. £5 buyin. top place gets a seat at a £20 buyin grand final.

got down to me and another guy and we were about even in chips so we decided to split the pot. £50 each.

we were gonna do a chip count to see who got the seat at the final table too but i just let the other guy have it.... he was so so made up with this. was that the right thing to do?? should i have got the chip count? it was close....
anyways... he was really made up with that so that made me happy.. and he wsa a really sound guy too....

i knocked my friend out of the tourney with KK.. he had AK... i well thought he had AA... but he had put me on a high pair of some kind i later found out... but not KK.. ha (oops Smile). there was this canadian guy who got a early chip lead too going in with any cards. he was drunk. sometimes he was throwing in the minimum call blind... dont think he even realised he was doing this.. he didnt last long.. funny.

there was some really good players there... all seemed to know each other... there was also some random first time players there (me, drunk canadian guy).

i had most fun when it got 4 handed.

i have tried so hard to think of any wrong moves i made... and i cant think of one. just tried to play my normal sng type stratgey.....

i was a major shot stack a couple of times throughout the game...
caught some bad luck a few hands .... but this got cancelled out by some even better good luck....

er.... wish i could go in to detail about some of the hands like you guys do... so soz if this post is a bit crappy.... Smile

i do know this though... i would have got eaten up if it wasnt for my studying of the game on this forum... and reading harrington.... alot.. etc

£5 X 20 = £100... % by 2 = £50 each......

for me and the other guy... only top place got paid. but we did a deal 50/50.... we both had more or less the same amount of chips...

not won a live tourney before...

I think the additional £20 buy-in to the larger event was regardless of the prize pool........

Nice work man, good to see poker tourneys in the UK too, although I'm a little unsure of the legalities of it being held in a pub Shocked

is it legal to host a poker tourney in a pub? i dont know... if anyone could shed any light on this??

yeah you gotta pay the buyin to the grand final final table... no matter how big the prizepools were in the preliminary rounds...

I was in a pub yesterday. And considering the shameful fact that they continued to serve me beer after beer hence which caused me to do horrible, horrible things (I waive all responsibility for my actions), I think punishing pubs for hosting poker tourneys is like punishing bankrobbers for wrongful parking.

OK so you won 50 + a 20 seat?

Makes more sense... I was gonna say that's the biggest rip-off of a tourney ever.

As far as I know, until the UK law changes which it is supposedly going to do soon, it is only legal to host a poker tourney in a public place if there is a members register and only registered members are involved. I'm sure that if it is just a free for all game, the filth could come and shut it down on anti-Gambling law rules. Like I say, this will all change soon :D

Yeah, I would bet its not legal.
Mind u the gambling rules in this country are utterly daft anyway.
