One that has me thinking....

Ok, it worked out bad, but I dont know if I would have changed anything, what are your thoughts?

8/16 live, lots of chips, aggressive table, total calling station who is down at least 1k on button, UTG raises to 16 and only has about $35 left. I 3 bet.

Flop, all rags, blind bets, I smooth call because I want him all in, I also dont really want to lose the calling station yet. He will not fold to a raise with any 2 cards (pair or not-no kidding).

Turn blank, UTG now w/ less than one big bet left checks, I bet, calling station raises. Now, I know that I am beat, this guy chases and calls anything but never raises unless he has 2 pair. However, this being one of the worst holes in my game, I cant believe my read and I call. UTG has folded.

River blank, I check he bet, I call. Big pots, KK no scare cards, no ace, I lose to Q5 off suit-2 pair. Yes, he called Q5 off for 3 bets cold. 3rd pair preflop and Q on the turn.

I made a ton off this guy, but I wonder if I should have done something different. How do you play w/ a solid player nearly all in and a calling station behind you?????

If you've got that strong of a hand, get the shortstack all in as soon as possible, then slow down considerably once youre against just the calling station and he raises you. If he really is a calling station, I'm not terribly worried about losing him since more often than not he's sticking around unless he doesn't call two cold very often. If he's shown a tendency to fold to two bets, then there's nothing you can do, you kept him in when you wanted him in and he did his calling station thing and hit.

But my question is, how the hell does UTG fold with less than one big bet left? Yeah it's a cash game and he can just buy back in, but....what the hell? Just throw it in the pot and hope you win!

And yeah seriously just fold pre-flop, you're against a calling station you KNOW he's gonna suck out on you.

If I'm reading this right it makes no sense at all. You smooth call 'cause you want him in even though he won't ever fold to a raise? Am I missing something here?

Also I raise the flop. Giving the button 11:1 is just too nice.

On the turn I calldown everytime, unless the board is very coordinated and I'm probably drawing dead. If the straight possiblities are limited and there's no flush you're probably looking at two pair, with the outside chance of a set. Given that and the large pot you're getting excellent odds to counterfeit his two pair.

I can't think of a situation where folding a strong hand HU in a big pot for a single bet on the river is right.

Didn't protect your pair. Always protect your pair. Laughing

You seem to have been really intent on getting UTG all in. Isn't that bad for you in a cash game, to for instance have UTG all in on the turn with a big ace getting a free card? Seems to me it's much better for you if he folds on the flop.
