Posting some stuff I learned in Vegas

Took my first trip to Vegas and played my first Casino poker games. I thought I'd post some things that weren't immediately obvious from reading on-line.

I went to four poker rooms in Vegas: Mandalay, Luxor, Excalibur, and Bellagio. All of them except for Bellagio had poker lessons. I took the Luxor lesson. It wasn't all that great, but it did provide someone to answer questions.

For the purposes of this, assume a 4-8 limit game. Blinds are 2 and 4 dollars. Things that weren't obvious to me:

- If you are in the small blind, and no one raises (pre-flop). you have to put another 2 dollars to call. If you are the big-blind and no one raises, you only need to check to stay in. (DON'T FOLD, it doesn't cost you anything and apparently its rude. I accidentally folded a couple times, and they say it gives an unfair advantage somehow.)
- To check, you knock the table in front of you.
- You can leave the table at any time. If you leave temporarily, and leave your chips in your spot, if you get back before the blind position passes you, you don't have to post a blind until it's your turn. If the blind positions does pass you, the dealer puts a "missed blind" token in your spot, and you have to pay when you get back. I'm still a little fuzzy about "dead" blinds and all that, so if someone can explain that, I'd be grateful.
- If you are in one of the blind spots, and everyone folds pre-flop. and the other blind asks you to "chop" He is asking you if you want to throw away your hand and you get to take back your blind.

From the 4 casinos I played in, I have to say I liked Bellagio the best. I'm not really into sports, but the sports book is right next to the poker room with some of the most comfortable chairs you'll find. Poker room is pretty damn big compared to the other casinos I saw, and alot of people/money flowing around. Gotta love that! And it was the only place I showed a small (but existant) profit. They were showing the WPT on the TVs when I was there on Wednesday, beautifull waitresses. Life just couldn't get better!

And to top it off, There were little Krispy Kreme stands all over the place (Vegas, not Bellagio) Can't get that in MA. Over all a very good Vegas experience.

Now I gotta hit Foxwoods and Mohegan on a regular basis. I know that Foxwoods uses their Players Club card in the poker room, does anyone know if Mohegan does? None of the poker rooms I went to in Vegas used it for some reason.

both foxwoods and mohegan comp .50 cents an hour for the 3-6 table. foxwoods has a 2-4 and a 4-8 table as well.
