Posted Tue Nov 15, 2005 2:50 pm GMT by scez
I am new to poker and found these chips on ebay at a place near me where I can pick them up. I am wonderng how good they are, and how they compare to the dice poker chips that I have now. I found them for either $50/70 for 500 set (canadian) Here they are http://www.pokernstuff.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=279&HS=1

Well, there's some chips that are really really bad. Some are casino quality. Most would probably consider these OK, but far from casino quality.

Really, whats wrong with them? On the site, ace21, they got a good review. Everyone was saying there were good. But I cant find anyother reviews, so I would really appreciate as much info that anyone can give so I dont waste my money.

Those are pretty much a run of the mill plastic chip with a metal insert. While it may not be a big favorite, of the chips over at pokernstuff (as well as all over eBay), those 7gr (advertised as 9gr) Las Vegas Pro chips are actually decent chips. They feel decent, stack better than most Chinese imports, sound pretty decent, and have a nice look to them in a stack. The only objection that many people have to them is their weight and the inclination that chips have to be in the 10gr range (or 11.5 for the imports). I think a lot of people would be surprised to find that there are many older Paulsons (and some current ones) that are actually in the 8 gr. range.

This chips will work for what you want them for. The important thing is they are priced well and will last a very long time. One of the best features is the fact that they have denomination on them. This can be helpful to people fresh into poker.

Are they worth getting if I just got a set? If I am going to buy another set I want to make sure that they are seen as good chips

Nobody has said it so I will, get samples.

Look at them, stack them, shuffle them, then decide for yourself.

If you like them that's all that matters.

Well the guy sells on ebay, and if I wanted to buy them without shipping I would have to meet him somewhere to pick them up because he his renting space in someone house and they dont want alot of traffic going through the apartment.

What chips do you have currently? IMO, they won't be much of an improvement over the dice chips.

If you want a real improvement, I'd stick with your existing set, save up some cash, and buy some real compression molded or ceramic chips.

Here are my pokerchips.com chips:

Also, you know about the pokersourceonline.com nevada jacks deal? These are casino quality chips that you can get if you're a first time real money player at a bunch of online poker rooms. It's a great deal.

For this pokersourceonline.com thing, is there a minimum amount you need to deposit in order to get these chips?

Yes - $100.

If you haven't played on party poker before, I'd recommend taking advantage of the no deposit required instant bankroll deal first. In this one you sign up for free, they deposit $75 in your account. Once you complete 500 raked hands, you get another $25 and you can cash out.

I did reviews on my site about these on my site...

Stay away from those chips. They are no good. If you are getting them for free or a bonus, I guess they are all right but do not purchase them. I've had many chip-sets and those are by far the worst. they are VERY slippery, very metallic and generally out-of-round.
