How was my play ( A Few Hand Histories)

Posted Thu Nov 17, 2005 10:29 am GMT by UrAteUp
Please take a look at these various hand histories and give me your thoughts. Did I play them right? Should I have played them?

My read here was walldo had hit a flush and wasn't waiting to see if someone hit a higher one. I seldom play A-rag and this is one reason I don't.

2) This hand was early in the tournament. I wanted to find out if most would do as I did and pass on playing this or go ahead and play it because of position.

Needless to say the flop would in no way of helped my hand. But I am just curious. Would you limp with hands like this? If so why?

3) This I think is more a lesson on the types of hands people will limp in with from the blinds. Anyway you would have played it differently?

hand 1, very weak play...If your going to play it, I might have raised it up. Also, checking the turn is basically giving the pot away. If you face a bet, you have to either raise or fold. There is no gaurantee he has a flush. The turn could have been as much a scare card for him as it was for you.

Hand 2, don't play that junk. From any position other than the blinds in an unraised pot. You are dominated by 94o, unless of course you have an amazing read and think you can take the pot down without a showdown.

Hand 3, I would have bet stronger on the turn. Not many people are going to fold for another 100 chips into a pot that is roughly 500.

Hand 4, I hate to beat a dead horse, but I would have folded preflop. J7 isn't that great. After the all-in, it was an easy laydown.

Hand 5, I like these hands, as they can become very very profitable if you can get in cheap. I would play this before I would play 93s or J7s anytime from most any position.

Hand 6, not sure why you are pleased with this hand...you raised, which you should do, although I would have raised more (3-4x BB), or maybe even pushed with your stack. Everyone folded. Good move, I guess.

Hand 7, eh...this is a judgment call...sometimes fold, sometimes push...to each his own, but I don't rule out pushing with pp3 4 handed.

You finished ITM, so you are obviously doing something right...keep it up.

1.) Nothing wrong with limping with A9 in the SB in a multihanded pot. Bet more on the flop. Define your hand, find out where you are. You bet 120 into a pot of 300, flush draws will call you all day. Make it a little more expensive for them to draw. Leading on the turn may not be a bad idea as well, maybe half the pot, see what happens.

2.) I can think of very few situations in which to play 3 9, suited or not.

3.) Tricky hand, just a four high flush with four on the board. If you're gonna bet, I'd say bet a little more and find out if anyone has a better flush, 300 maybe. If they fold it, they don't have a spade, if they call, you're probably beat.

4.) I fold J7 in that position regardless of anything. It's J7. Not a good hand.

5.) Fine fold UTG. On the button with a limper or two, sure, but don't want to be playing draws out of position. You can lose control of the hand very easily and pay for it.

6.) If by move you mean playing it like the majority of people would play it, then yes, it's a good move. However, nuts to minraising unless you REALLY want action, and even then it's dangerous. Pop that guy up to 3XBB at least.

7.) Good fold. Huge leak I used to have was playing any pocket pair until the flop. As long as it's cheap, go right ahead, but calling 900 on an 8 to 1 shot isn't good poker. Pushing is a viable option, but if you get called you're at BEST 50 50, so it's a dangerous move. I fold and wait for a better spot, unless the raiser has been stealing a lot and may have nothing, in which case you could take it down pre flop.

1) Played perfect.

2) No way in hell you play 93c

3) Played fine.

4) So you would have played J7h if there wasn't a short stack still to act??? Foolish.

5) 87d is a nice hand but when the blinds are more than 10% of your stack its an easy fold.

6) Standard play.

7) At best you'd be 50/50 to win this hand. No need to play it to unless you think a 50% chance to win is good enough.

Posted Thu Nov 17, 2005 5:57 pm GMT by bluef0x
Wow, you guys are crazy.... hand 6 IS NOT A STANDARD PLAY. It's BAD.

You need to PUSH that.

Posted Fri Nov 18, 2005 1:16 am GMT by Skribbles
Your exactly right Bluefox. Him pushing there would have changed the entire game. Since they wouldn't call his min raise they would definitly call his all-in.

that's not the point.

he has to push because he only has 5x the BB left, it's 4 handed, he really needs to double up and it's not likely he gets a better hand anytime soon

what if he misses the flop ? he going to check-fold and have himself with 900 left or desperately push ?

bluefox is right

Yeah one time I called 8 all-in's with 7-2o and won. I should do it everytime.

Stop being results oriented, it's dumb.

I'd be pushing no matter what the flop the was.

Posted Fri Nov 18, 2005 5:02 pm GMT by bluef0x
And when he hits the flop you lose your stack, when he misses he folds for +300. Thats -EV.

take the blinds or double up through Ax you have to push that flop.
