A bad Push?

Posted Mon Nov 28, 2005 4:10 pm GMT by UrAteUp
I played this SNG last night and this was the final hand. I actually couldn't believe the guy pushed or attempted a push with these cards. I personally wouldn't have pushed here if I was in his shoes. The J Spade 7 Diamond to me was hardly a good hand to push with. He had enough chips to withstand some blinds. I am not a pusher in heads up and will often give up blinds till I get a hand I want to push with. This might be a flaw in my game but I'm not thinking so. What do you think? Would you have pushed if you were in this guys place with these cards?

( I am abigfan btw)

You had him outchiped and had Ace high heads up. Your looking 60-40% for most of the heads up hands. So you take thes shots when you think you have the best of it...

I've seen worse, and I've done worse.

I'm wondering if you happened to beat him out of a pot that he may have thought he received a bad beat in, and this was a bit of a tilt.

It's not completely unreasonable, maybe hes just a gambl0r extraordinaire. I'd be a bit careful about calling with a hand as weak as A5 here. Sure its worth a shot, but there's too much of a chance you're dominated here. I'd like something more A8ish range, that way you're still flipping a coin with a low pocket pair.

I'm a nut peddler though.

I agree I think he made a weak push here. The 400 he could win from you if you fold isn't worth it... at least to me. However Salche could be right and the guy was ticked. Maybe something on the other side of the computer was demanding his attention (or maybe another tourny where he had better position) and he was looking to either double up or just get 2nd.

Almost weak call... if you were SURPRISED he pushed with that then you must have put him on a tighter range. If you put him on a loose range you should be calling with 44+,A6o+,A2s+,KTo+,K9s+ (Top 20% of hands) Your A5o isn't bad, just 'marginal'

He should be pushing 44+,ATo+,A8s+,KQo,KTs+,QTs+,JTs

Bad push on his part, but far from worse.
If you could put him on a range you could see what hands you need to call with in that spo.

Yeah I do recall kicking him on a good pot when I hit a set and doubled up plus kicked the 3rd player out in the process. That might explain why he played such a bad hand like that.

I got a gut feeling to play the A5s. I think part of it was the fact it was suited, but I think more so it was because I played a hand previously where someone limped in with AJ and I had A9. The board flopped A9x. They pushed all in and I called. I won with two pair. Not a great reason to play A5 but if I said I played it because it was suited, that would really catch some guff... Laughing.
