DRAW, jacks or better, question

Posted Thu Mar 04, 2004 5:08 am GMT by Damian
Hi folks,

I'm trying to expand my poker armour at the moment, and am looking at draw, jacks or better, in Super/System. What it doesn't do is explain the following:

Everyone antes $1, and it's $5 to open. It goes round the table, and people obviously either don't have jacks or better, or are trying a cheeky check-raise - effectively, no-one opens.

Question: What then happens to the antes? I presume they stay in the pot? For the next round, does everyone ante again, or is the next round a "free" ante?

I would have thought there can be quite a few hands where no-one opens, so this would significantly effect the game if suddenly there is $40 in the pot in "lost" antes.

Please someone explain!! Thanks

If no one opens, I always thought you drew anyway. . .

Unless there's a house rule to the contrary, you ante again. Usually there's a three ante maximum on Jacks or better.

The way I've been brought up to play "Jacks or Better to Open, Trips or Better to Win" :

Everyone antes $0.25
Everyone gets Delt 5 Cards
Goes around the table from the Left of the Dealer to see if anyone can Open (Jacks or Better)
If no one can Open --
Everyone Re-Antes
The Deal Passes to the Player on the Left.

If Someone Can Open --
That person makes the bet
Everyone matches that to stay in, 3 raise Limit.
You discard, and Give the amount of discarded cards to the player to the left of the dealer, and continue to the last person.
The Opener bets again
Everyone matches or raises (3 raise Limit)

If no one has Trips or Better, Re-Ante, Pass the Deal

If someone or more has Trips or better, Highest hand wins (Royal Flush to Trips)
