How do programs auto read party poker hands?

Posted Wed Dec 14, 2005 4:17 am GMT by onemind
Hi,

I was wondering if there are any programmers here that know how programs like calculatem auto read what hand you have been dealt on party poker. Do party poker have some kind of sdk or did the programmer hack the pp software? Or is it by some other method like pattern recognition or something.

Any thoughts would be great.

Thanks

Pattern recognition is my guess. The graphical output is the final link in the chain and probably the weakest. It’s like studios that try to protect music, no matter how much security they tie into the player they still can’t control the audio once it comes out the analogue jack.

Party poker releasing a SDK sounds a little unlikely since their T&C’s specifically prohibit 3rd party software.

Hacking the protocol would produce a nice clean data stream for the program but it probably not worth the effort.

IMO as a programmer, doing pattern recognition would be much harder work than intercepting the data from the client.

Wouldn’t the data likely be encrypted though?

Thanks guys,

I have found that calculatem and similar programs use pattern recognition. It would be way harder parsing client data especially if you plan to support multiple clients and they change regularly also.

I'm told pattern matching the suits and rank is an easy task but it is way over my head so i think i'll give up on this project Smile

Thanks again

They either read it out of memory or parse the hand history files. It's much harder to read the network traffic as you have to account for all the retries and other exception handling. But to get it out of memory you have to run the client with a debugger and know what to look for.

From reading pokeroffice forums, it seems like the PO developers work with the poker sites in at least some cases.

You can get poker office for free from empire or noble (with account creation and some raked hands)

I have no vested interest in poker office.
