Unfortunately I don't have the hand history for this hand, but this is the background:
I was watching a 100$/200$ limit table play, and the play was mostly a single raise being called by the BB etc. when this hand suddenly popped up:
EP raises
MP calls
CO calls
Button calls
BB calls
In the showdown button wins the hand with two pair with 82o.
If we disregard flop, turn and river actions is there a rational explanation as to why button would call with 82o in this hand preflop? He struck me as a very tight/aggressive player just like almost all other players at this table.

Maybe he felt with three players in front that pot odds justified a call to see the flop with just about any two cards...
or it's rigged.

There is decent action, he is in position. All the players likely have a hand.
So, this is a situation where I would MUCH rather have 56 45 (maybe not 82) vs Q10 A10 KJ. Think of it this way, what hands would those guys be calling a preflop raise with? Not likely A2 or A8. If you hit, you will be getting paid off 15:1. If you miss, you lose 2 small bets.
BTW-this can get real expensive if you run into a set.
Also, some limit players are just action junkies. They might lay down A10 in late position with no action, but they will call 3-4 bets cold w/ any 2 cards if there are 4-5 in the pot.

There is a chance he hit the wrong button.
