Learning without using real money |

I'm trying to improve on my hold'em game however there is a major problem preventing me from doing so. I'm under the legal gambling age. This means when I play online I can't use real money. Obviously people paly much much differently when using real money, so I feel as though I'm not gonna get a lot from playing with fake money. Is there anyway to learn to play better while still under the legal age limit?
Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? Be it by sharing experiences or simply asking for help, participation in a forum helps you focus and keep 'on topic' which will help you improve your game. You can learn from other players feedback and from their experiences. Why the THP poker forums? We offer one of the best managed texas holdem poker forums available, and the community within is far more friendly than those typicaly found on other sites. We've made a 'lurkers edition' of the poker forum available here on Holdem Poker Online, but we encourage all visitors to register and join in on the conversations on TexasHoldem-Poker.com

Read some poker books. When you are done reading those.... read some more. BY FAR the most important thing to do when starting out with poker.... whether you are of legal age or not.
Look at my sig for my opinion about learning about poker playing with play chips.

Read all the books you want. It will help a good deal. But the most important part of the game is feel. The more hours you put into it the better you will be. Play with friends for low stakes.

Thanks for the quick responses guys. I'm planning on getting 2 books and a nice chip set for Christmas, so I'l have some reading material and be able to play more often. I was thinking I would get both of Dan Harrington's books as they seem to get good reviews. Any other suggestions?

ya those books rule! keep in mind they are for tournament play.
you'll need a low-stakes cash game book too.

You sound way more responsible than the average 18-21 year old. Just start playing for real money.

It was the opposite with my dad, kinda funny actually.
Me: Dad, I used your name to player online poker for real money. And by the way, you have a Neteller account.
Dad: Ok, but no credit cards, don't trust the internet.
He even brought me to the bank to open an online banking account.

I've been doing ok, I'm up a little bit, around $300. I wouldn't try anything with your debit card either, not worth it.

$300 Isn't bad. I just want like $10 to play on 10c/20c tables to atleast get some real money experience. Doesnt seem like to much to ask for imo.

dude. Royal Vegas poker. Sign up and within a day they send you 10 bucks to play with. =P

Does RV have a minimum deposit? I’ve been playing their 10c/20c NL tables myself and while profitable I would warn you that there’s a lot of variance. I.e. Lots of opportunities to get all-in with the best of it but that does mean entire buy-ins are won and lost quickly.
You may want to do some reading on bankroll management later. At the moment it doesn’t matter so much because you’re playing/paying for experience.

If your just learning I would actually look into an even smaller starting point then 10/20. Perhaps 2/4c or maybe 5/10c. Your starting deposit will be quite small and $10 can get eaten up real fast.
Personally I think the best bank-roll builders and experience teachers is the SNG. You can buy in for one set price. The thing to remember is to play tight till you get down to only a few people. Survival is the key early on and then chip collecting becomes very important in later stages.
Just read the books. they should explain all that...

Nope. They don't. Not unless there's something actually at stake, like some real money or a seat in a satellite, but even then, people take chances no decent player would risk cash money on.
