what is a rebuy

Posted Sun Mar 07, 2004 7:16 am GMT by LAFYRWMN
ok, dumb question probably- and one I could probably get answered when I get to the casino, but I have a real problem with not knowing the details before I get there- so please bear with me ( the blond really goes staight to the roots!)

what is a "rebuy"? or "multi-rebuys"
for example, I read " buy in:$50 +$15 with Multi rebuys

whats the difference between buy in and entry fee? ( they seem like they would be the same to me!)

then I have seen listings under buy-in as:
$500 + $65

What is "added money" refer to?

Finally I saw an ad in Cardplayer Mad for a tournament that read:
"$20 buy-in, $5 entry , $10 re-buys"

What gives man?

thanks in advance for any info

Linda

A buy-in is what you pay to get into the tournament.
A re-buy is what you are allowed to pay (normally same as entry fee) to get another stack of chips.

For instance, if I'm in a $10+$1 rebuy tournament, then it's $10 + $1 to enter... within the first hour, if I'm ever under the starting amount of chips, then I can invest another $10 to get another stack of chips.

This helps if someone gets knocked out really early, they can stay in and play a little longer; not to mention grows the prize pool.

The "plus" money goes to the house, since they don't rake tournament hands, they get their cash by having this addition to the entry fee (not the re-buys).

This would be $20 for your first stack, $5 to the house, and $10 for re-buys. Hope this helps and good cards to you!

ok so if I get this right if the instructions read as follows:

" $15 buy-in, $5 Entry, $10 rebuys first hour"

Means it costs me $20 to enter then if I want I can buy one extra stack for $10? Can I buy more then one stack at $10? ( I noticed some specifiy "one rebuy") others just say "rebuys first hour"

thanks

Yes, you have it..

It should state specifically if the rebuys are unlimited for the first hour or not...

also be aware of the "add-on"... this is normally available at the end of the first hour for anyone in the game (not just those under the starting amount)...

yeah, rebuy is when you bust out, add on is adding
to your existing stack. Rebuy is only when you go
all in and lose, w/in 1st hour usually.

In the rebuy tourneys I play you can rebuy anytime your stack is at or under your starting about. You can rebuy before a hand is ever dealt. You do not need to bust to rebuy.

My rebuy advice-if you are in a satalite or game where all players in the top X receive the same prize, then rebuy and addon whenever possible. That extra 1000-2000TC can make all the difference at the end.

If the tourney has a normal payout structure, rebuy at the start, then not again unless you are thick in the wallet. Add on (usually a one time offer after rebuys are over) if you are a shorter stack, not if you are one of the bigger stacks at the table.
