AC over new years (trip report)

Posted Thu Jan 05, 2006 2:53 pm GMT by suitedaces84
After months of talking I finally went to AC with my girlfriend. We drove 10 hours or so and got there 11ish on year's eve. Meh.

We went to the trop on night one. I played 4/8 'til 4am or so. The game was pretty good. I had no starting hands all night. I bought in for $200 won a very small pot with AK on the flop. Then I bled blinds for around two hours. Sad I was getting absolutely no starting hands.

Finally I pick up 55 in the CO. There's three limpers and obnoxious guy with an unlit cigarette in his mouth (Sam Farah style) who's been calling everyone at the table morons for the past few hours raises. There's nothing I'd like more then to suck out on this guy's high pocket pair in a big pot. I come along for the ride. Reasonable guy on button calls as does the big blind. A limper 3-bets! Obnoxious guy caps, we all call. There's six to the flop for four bets each.

The flop is Q95. It's checked to me and I bet. Reasonable guy on button calls, blind calls, one fold, limp 3-bettor raises, obnoxious guy folds Crying, I 3-bet and everyone calls.

The turn is a 3. It's checked me I bet and everyone calls.

The river is a Q. It's checked to me, I bet reasonable button raises, preflop limp 3-bettor looks confused. The dealer counts out the pot for him. It's over $200. The dealer gives him the impression he can't fold now. He pukes and tosses in another $16. I 3-bet the river raiser looks pissed but he can't fold trips now. He calls and the preflop limp 3-bettor throws in the final obligitory chips. Sweet. The botton had QJo, the limp 3-bettor had KK. :D

I ended up winning $153 on the night. Almost all of it was from this miracle hand.

Day two and three highlights to follow.

And it just might be cheaper, depending on what you drive.

There's no need to humour me. We all know my trip report sucked. I meant to have Snoogins write it up for me but he hasn't been around much lately. I apologize for sucking at writing.Laughing

I go to school in NC but my home is in MA. I stopped on the way home for a late x-mas break. AC is only 2 hours out of the way.

I must admit B&M poker is way more entertaining than online.

Ever been to Foxwoods, suited? That can't be more than a few hours from MA.

I haven't been to the Trop since mid November. I need to get back there soon.

No, although it's not far from home. Since turning 21 I haven't spend much time at home. Sad

Sean, I'm sure you've been to them all. I went to the Trop, Taj and Borg. The borg was the nicest by far, IMO. What's do you think the best place in AC is (I guess I should have asked this before going)?

Now on to day two. I start out at 5/10 at the Taj. I go in for $200. The cards are coming I'm playing aggressively. I'm up $150 or so when this hand comes up.

I've got 9 Diamond T Diamond in the CO. There are two loose limpers, I call, the button folds, the SB completes, the BB checks.

The flop is 963 two Club s . It's checked to me and I bet. Both blinds call, everyone else folds.

The turn is a 6. It's checked to me and I bet, the SB folds and the BB raises. He's in his 20s, aggro and I don't think he likes me. I call.

The river is some brick, I forget exactly what. He reaches for chips, I have my hand on my chips and am ready to throw them in. He notices this and pauses. Then he says "check" and takes his chips back. Confused I check. Confused He askes if I had clubs. He shows a 3. I show my hand and take the pot. Reaching for my chips cost me $10. Crying Lesson learned.

Villian's buddy is now at the table. Villian frequently gets up and whispers stuff to him between hands. A little while later the guy next to Villian's buddy gets up and Villian switches his seat to the one next to his buddy. This isn't sitting well with me. I decide I'm going to leave when the blind gets back to me.

I've got three hands to go and pick up 88 UTG+2. There is a poster in MP. It's folded to me and I limp, as does the guy behind me. The poster raises. An older black guy who plays pretty bad and has had a terrible run of cards cold calls. The blinds fold and there's four to the flop.

The flop is J85r (one Heart ) . I check, guy behind me checks, PFR bets, older black guy calls, I raise, PFR 3-bets, older black guy folds, I 4-bet (there's no HU cap here), he shrugs and tosses in one more $5 chip.

The turn is K Heart. I don't like it, but I still gotta feel my hand is best. I bet, he calls. :D

The river is T Heart. I don't like that either but I still gotta feel my hand is best and I know he's calling. I bet, he calls. I proudly table my hand and say "set" pretty confident I sucked out on his big pocket pair. He shows JJ Shocked Crying. He says he was planning on raising the river but was scared on the flush. Yeah, because it's very common to 4-bet the flop with a BDFD. Oh well, I'm not complaining, it saved me some money. I wonder if he knew there was no HU cap.

I fold a few hands take my chips and look for a 1/2 NL table. I've always heard they were great games.

The max buy in is $300. By now I've paid for the overpriced motel room via poker. I don't want to risk more than $100 in this game. I'm just looking to sit around long enough for some donk to double me up and get some drinks while doing so. I cash out all but $100 and take it to the first available 1/2 NL table.

The table is all younger guys expect for one out of place fifty-something wearing sunglasses seated on the far side of the table. I'm seated between two drunk-sounding-fun-loving guys in their mid 20s who don't seem to be taking the game too seriously. They're joking around about who the attractive cocktail waitress likes more. The one on my right is addmittly down a few hundred but has re-bought and has a healthy looking stack. The guy on my left probably has better than 1k even though he cocktail waitress doesn't ask him "what can I get you?" she says "would you like another one?". His response is always yes.

I absorb the table for an orbit or two. Flops don't come cheap. Niether do turns, rivers, showdowns or blind steals.

I wait 'til I get KQo three off the button. The drunk guy on my left limps I raise to $6 (mainly to protect against an LP steal and increase my chances at getting the button). It folds the the BB who calls as does the drunk guy on my right.

The flop comes Q9x two Diamond . They both check to me, I bet $10 and the both call.

The turn is a K ( non Diamond ) . The is pot $40 or so. They both check to me again. I bet $40. The blind quickly folds, the drunk murmurs something but decides "he has to call" and calls.

The river is a 9 (non Diamond ). He checks. I've got $40 left. I'm a pussy. I check. He didn't show too quickly. I don't want to be a dick so I table my cards as soon as a realize he doesn't want to show and rake the pot.

I played break even poker for another hour or so and left for dinner. Meh.
