Site protocol

Posted Mon Jan 16, 2006 2:38 pm GMT by ChrisCosenza
Can someone tell me if it's OK to mention a web site or blog that I have? I don't want to go against any site protocol, but I have a poker podcast that's free and it's for the beginner/intermediate player, plus we have a blog. I have the site in my signature but I don't want to step on any toes. :D

If it is OK I'll add the links in a follow-up post. Meanwhile I will post on here as often as I can to offer my advice.

Thanks

Chris,

Welcome to the forum. Glad you ask before you post a site. I'll let the mods answer your question. I just wanted to welcome you.

Thanks! It's a great site and I can't wait to start helping, and getting help.

I think as long as there are no affiliate links on your website that it should be ok. I'm no mod, so don't take this as gospel, but that is the feeling I get from being around here for some time now.

Cool, thanks. I'll still wait for a moderator, though, b/c I don't want to tick anyone off on my first day.

This is in the rules and guidelines: - No posts that promote a business, website, email address, charity, or any similiar entity that you own, work for, or are affiliated with.

Though I do work for the magazine that hosts my blog and podcast, the site is a local magazine here in Tampa Bay. It has nothing to do with poker, but it's the only place I have to host my blog and store my podcast, which is also on iTunes.

It's not commercial at all and offers great poker advice, stories, etc.

Maybe a moderator can screen it first to see if it's cool.

The site is tbt.com. I'll gladly take this off though and will edit my signature if it's a problem.

Rolling Eyes This is also in the forum rules:
Quote:
We do not allow URL's in any part of your profile outside of the "Website" field, which will link to the "www" button in your profile.

Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes All seems pretty clear to me.

However the mods are curiously silent. Perhaps you will be allowed to spam by virtue of sheer politeness. Laughing However in any case gotta hand it to ya, you are smarter than the average bear, your spam's been up for a while and everyone's being really nice to you, usually you'd have been banned and flamed extra crispy by now. Chris, unfortunately due to abuse in the past, you definitely cannot have a URL in your signature and strictly speaking you cannot post links in the content of your posts.

The rule is slightly grey because as far as the mods are concerned, if someone has 'earned' the right post a link to something they can do so because we know that they didn't come to this site purely to pimp some other website. However, you could 100,000 posts and we still wouldn't allow links to sites with affiliate links/banners.

At this stage I would rather you did not post a link but rather you keep your website as it is now listed in profile so that the 'www' button links to it. That is not to say that your signature should become "click the 'www' button now!" and if every post you write is talking about the 'www' button/your blog, we are gonna have a problem.

Sounds harsh but as usual the system was abused and the many have to suffer for the idiocy of the few.

After all that - welcome aboard Wink

PS. This thread will probably get you a load of clicks anyway.

Thanks Geno,

I used to post on here a long time ago but my account expired or something. I say that so you know I'm no spammer. I'll post advice as much as I can. I see my signature has been modified, which is fine because I would have done it myself. No biggie.

Thanks again.
