passing out chips

Posted Tue Jan 24, 2006 7:17 pm GMT by hard2beat
I have a chip set with 500 chips. If I have 8 players, how many chips does everyone get? This is what my set looks like:
150 grey $1
150 red $5
100 green $25
50 blue $50
50 black $100
I would like the games not to be very long so other players who get knocked out can catch the next game.
All help will be appreciated. Thank you.

In my regular game we start out with 100 chips (say 10 $1, 8 $5, and 2 $25) and blinds at $1 and $2. Some people like to have more chips per player, but it's not necessary. If you do use more chips per player, make sure you have enough higher value chips to color up to when the blinds get high. It's a pain to be using $1 chips after $10/20. You could easily do $500/player or so though if you like the bigger stacks.

The blinds determine how fast the game goes. We go in $1 increments every 15 minutes up to $8/16 and allow 1 rebuy, so it takes a while, but with the rebuy, people don't have to wait to get back in the game. Our games go 4 hours or more. Doubling the blinds and no rebuys would be a lot faster.

Good luck, have fun.

i thinking it might be easier to make your grey $2.50. this is because you can then have the blind increases in uniform. $2.50-$5, $5-$10 etc.

if you start with $1-$2 blinds, you then go £2-$4......then what???? (what ever you do, you end up with lot's of small change on the table) ie if you then go $4 and $8 and someone else calls, you've already got 9 grey $1 chips on the table.

this may seem petty, but someone soon ends up with 40-50 $1 chips, and then holds the whole game up, when they either make little piles or count it out for their bet.
