This was in a NL tournament, 10 men, reduced to 3.
I had 2300 chips, he had 2100 chips.
I had been reading this guy as a solid player who only plays solid hands, the hands he had shown down were always strong.
Blinds at 75/150
I pick up AQ Unsuited, and raise to 700, he calls.
Flop is 10 5 3
I believe he has 2 high cards and will not be able to call in all-in bet with nothing, so I push, he calls, and he turns over to my shock 10 7 , and wins the pot, effectively knocking me out in 3rd place
Looking back at it, I think the all-in move was a little rash on my part, should I have waited and taken a better opportunity?
I am relatively new at the game, so any help would be appreciated!

When you get down to two or three people... lower hands gain a lot more power. Most will try to limp into a flop with any two cards. If you hit even a small pair you have a pretty good chance of winning.
In this case though, a call of 700 chips seems pretty dang loose to me. He just happened to get lucky and hit the top pair. He might have figured you for trying to steal the pot.

In my opinion a raise to 700 with blind structures like this is screaming I have an AX. Reason 1 I like playing PP like an AX hand. If nothing threatening comes out on the flop (no over cards) then I am pushing all-in baby. I either take the pot there or take someone out of a tournament.
With AX you have to be careful. If you do not see one of your cards on the flop then it is time to start checking. One of the other players may have made a hand from that flop.

First, I'd say that this goes in the basic theory thread; as you admit, you're new at the game. But no worries there.
With respect to your play, you played the hand right given the read you had. So, maybe the question isn't "should I have pushed" but should be "why did I misread"?
You don't say who's in what position; if he has post-flop position on you, that has some intrinsic value that might make a call worthwhile. Also, if he's in the BB, he's calling 550, not 700, which makes his odds a little better. You don't say whether he's got 10 7 suited, which helps justify his pre-flop call a bit (I guess).
Finally, you don't mention the stakes; I'm presuming this was a low-stakes on-line SNG, where play is pretty loose. Plus, once people have made the money, they're sometimes pretty happy with that.
All in all, my suspicion is, given your read on him as a solid player, that he was simply becoming more aggressive as the table dwindled down, and figured he'd take a shot. I don't think there's anything necessarily wrong with any of your plays.

You have to assume that he assumes that you are representing 2 big cards with your 700 preflop raise. When the flop came down rags, you pushed and he hit top pair. He had to assume his hand was good. The only thing he had to fear from you was JJ - AA or a bigger 10, which is unlikely since he has a 10.
Remember that it's not only important to try to put your opponent on a range of hands, you also need to think about what your opponent must assume you have.

Thanks for the replies! Just for the information, he was BB, and it was 10 7 offsuit. I will definitely try and think more about what my raise represents more! I guess I must also take into account that people must become looser in the ends of tournaments, so thanks a lot for everybodies help!
