Trip Report....

Got an early start. Dave and I are at the Mirage 2 hours before check in time. Hhhmmmm, what to do??? We hit the poker room with only one table just getting started, a 3/6 with 2 open seats. We play a few hands and Dave is off to the 6/12 just opening up. I stay at the 3/6 as I have taken advantage of a soft table and am up a few bets. We play till check in time. Time for a break and a run through the buffet.

Back to grinding it out. A few hours later, I’m in a $60+10 sin-n-go Dave is grinding a $10/20 game and General Sal shows up to say hi. I find myself heads up short stacked 800 to 9200 against a maniac who has gone all-in at least a dozen times. I’m about to get blinded out and make my stand with A/7 off and go out. The payout was 70/30 split that put $180 in my pocket.

Dave, General and I yuk it up for a while them Dave splits for the room to shower up and General and I hit a 6/12. That game was going well until I got into this hand…. I have pocket 9’s and pick up a full house on the turn. Bet/raise/called by evel doer (who has 2 pr and pocket jacks.) The river is of course a J giving evel a J hi full house over my 99 FH. I 5 bet it before starting to not like my hand at this point and lose a huge pot. I am still up about $150 at this point however, but I am a little steamed.

Not long after another 60+10 sng is announced and General and I jump in that game. I go out early holding KK when Aax hit the board and I mis read the gal playing heads up and go up to her weak ace. Before that hand General had a funny hand play out. General, jump in here and describe that lay down, I can’t remember the cards exactly, but it was rather sweet.

After I bust out of the sng, Dave and I head over to Caesars for a change of scenery leaving General sitting behind a nice stack of $100 chips. How did that game end up General?

Caesars has a very nice card room. Roomed off from the smoke and noise of the casino, it was a nice change from the Migare. Dave and I beat up a 6/12 game there till about 3am and call it a night. I happy to be up about $500 for the day and Dave is playing about even after being down about $400-500.

Sunday. Dave is off to “Work” and I get to go be a tourist. Really not a lot of action till about 3pm so I get a few hours in before Dave and I meet up for dinner. We meet up with Dave’s buds at the Mesa Grill and enjoy a fantastic dinner. Right next door, the conference Dave is at has the “Pure nightclub/Pussy Cat Lounge” reserved for a private party and I “crash” the party fitting in with the other 35-40yo investment advisors and bankers. Really not my scene, but was fun while it lasted. I sneak out after a couple drinks and head back over to Caesars card room and jump on a ½ NL game. I run a $300 buy in up to about $500, but don’t feel real comfortable at this table as I am seeing some fantastic poke being played. So I split back to the 6/12 at Mirage and play about even till 3am and call it a night. (Dave ended up over a Belagio. He told me a story but I can’t recall – Dave?)

Monday, I’m back at Caesars and entered in the Noon $80 with one $50 rebuy tourney. 70 players. I struggle here and never make any headway and am busted out in about 25th after 3 hours of play. Real slow game. (40 minute rounds) Oh well, good experience for me. Monday did not get any better. I end up dropping another $300 at a 6/12 and another $400 at a 8/16 later in the day at Wynns. So, overall I’m back to even.

Tuesday. Not getting too fancy on my last day here. I sit at a 6/12 at the Mirage and pick up about $300 in chips to end the trip. The early games at Mirage are all old F’ers playing crazy tight or crazy loose. Weird game!

Well, that’s it. Get home with $200 more than I left with. Most people I talk to tell me that’s a good trip!

Well, it was a weird laydown that I had. Basically, in the $70 sit n' go, you start with about $1000 in chips, starting blinds at 25/50. Blinds go up every 20 mins. So, I had amassed about $2000 in chips and we enter the 50/100 blind round.

An old asian guy limps in early position for $100. All fold to me in the small blind with K J offsuit. I limp too... a little weary that the asian guy could have limped in with AK or even AA... Big blind checks. Flop comes out 8 Club 9 Club J Spade . I have top pair but I have to feel things out. So, I bet $150 into a $600 pot. Big blind smooth calls. That's a little weird. If he had something, then he should raise. Unless he's on the flush draw. The early position limper then pops it up to $400. Now, I'm in a little pickle here. He's got something and he's trying to stop the draws for some reason. It was all a little weird... I decide I needed to pick a better spot to play... nothing wrong with folding a pair of jack with a king kicker. He could have pocket queens or better, maybe even jack ace. Or even a set now. So, I chuck my cards and they bounce on the felt face up!!! Crap. I quickly turn them back over, but the dealer has seen this, so he shows the table. They're all a little confused, cause i've just folded top pair!

Well, gets better. The big blind calls the raise. Dealer burns. What do we have for a turn? A king! You just hear the "oohs and ahhs" coming out... I've turned two pair and I folded it. Even I'm a little astounded about what's transpired. So, the big blind checks and the asian guy moves all in. Big blind calls. What happens?

Well, I can't remember the asian guy's hand. I think the turn made him top pair with an ace kicker. He could have A Club K Club . Maybe, he even had a set. Turns out the big blind had the 7 Heart 10 Diamond ... he flopped the straight!

Personally, I was still in awe... I could've improved, but not enough. Needless to say, I amassed over $4000 in chips on the ensuing hands... once it got down to two handed, I decided to split with the other lady. Turned $70 into $300. Not bad. I needed to get some sleep anyway.
