I just watched about 30 minutes of this...and Oh my god!! The play was HORRIBLE!!! Take this hand for example (can't remember who the guys were)
Player A: QQ, 19000 chips.
Player B: Q8 34000 chips.
Player A bets 4000.
Player B calls 4000.
Flop: 9 5 2 rainbow.
Player A pushes all-in with QQ.
Player B calls with Q8. (What the hell???)
Turn: 9 5 2 9
River: 9 5 2 9 4
What the hell was player B thinking??? He called an all-in raise of half his stack with NOTHING!! NOTHING!!
The commentators were even idiots! They show an A 2 in someone's hand, the guy goes: Oh, A 2, very good hand...
Sorry for the rant, but come on, that's a horrible play!

I don't think the announcers were idiots, as one was professional poker player Phil Gordan.

It was the other guy, Vince Van Patten. In any case, A 2 is far from a very good hand.

Believe it or not, its stronger than ace 6 and ace 7.
But yeah, celeberity poker is a novelty with horrible play, designed to increase popularity in gambling and the like. Much like celeberity jeopardy, where the questions are obviously dumbed down. ALOT.

I know it's stronger than A 6 or 7, because of the straight possibilities. Nevertheless, you need three cards- 3, 4 and 5. And if you catch an Ace, it's practically worthless.

That van patten guy cover all the real WPT events too. There's a reason he isn't in these events I think. A2 isn't that bad a hand though in the situations he covers. Usually it's down to the last few players and the blinds are relatively high. It seems that most will play any ace in that situation, especially A2 (definitely if it's suited). It's value goes up quite a bit because the other players will start playing much looser.

I think the point of Celebrity Poker is to watch celebs out of thier milieu. I think this should be extended to other mediums. IE, "Tonight on Celebrity Pencak Silat . . . "

I rememember the first time seeing one of these tournaments on Bravo 2-3 months ago, I thought '' NO WAY'' they frequently asked the dealer if they could do this and that, they would try to check when someone raised.
God, first thought of mind is , WHO IS TEACHING THEM HOW TO PLAY?
After awhile I had to just change the channel I couldnt take it anymore, but I think I said before on a post here that once I watched Ben Affleck and he was surprisigly not bad. Though he lost to that VERY VERY ANNOYING guy ( some gay looking actor I hate ) But, it was good one didnt watch anymore after that, got tired of it.

Ben Affleck is actually a pretty big gambler. So is shannon doherty. Matt Damon and Ed Norton both beat Hellmuth, their consultant, in the WSOP year they made Rounders.
edit: My mistake, Hellmuth wasn't the consultant: Mike Caro was. They both have a column on cardplayer.com and I got a pair of articles turned around.

Of course the celebrity poker tournaments suck. We all knew that before we saw the first episode. A good friend of mine works as Poker Room Manager at Trump-IN (a Bravo Celeb Tourney will be filmed there in May) and he has been dealing with Bravo for the past few weeks. Its obvious to him that the Bravo channel is not interested in Poker, rules of a tourney, fairness, or even who wins/looses! They are more interested in getting a bunch of famous (or semi-famous) people together in a closed area for a couple of hours- its more reality TV than a poker show! Poker is just the tool (or excuse) to get these celebs interested in a reason to sit around and BS for a couple of hours! It's ingenious- you have to admitt that!
Now- Mike (Poker Manager) told me that the only way that Trump and other casinos are allowing Bravo to film in the casino is if they offer an open seat at the table for a local player. If you really think about it- Poker Players do not watch this crap- nor do they care about it! So, all the free publicity is going to the wrong market. Now, the casinos are asking for this open seat to spark an interest in the poker community (we will see if it works, or not). I posted a couple of days ago the tournament information for the Celeb/Trump tourney in the LAND TOURNAMENT forum. If anyone would like to be eligible to play with the final table at Trump- you need to log 110+ hours at the poker room between now and the end of April- Mike told me that the local player will be picked randomly (name out of a hat). I actually plan on going to check it out- he told me that Billy Corrigan, Jon Cuzak, and Jim Belushi have been marked down by Bravo as "interested" and "available"- but it is not set in stone yet! -SASO
