freerolls are free to enter, sometimes they pay out real $$ or poker points (called different things @ various sites) or act as a satellite into another tourney. Usually the top9 get in the 'award' pool. Lots of sites have freerolls daily, I play pokerstars mostly and they have multiple daily freerolls, usually 2 or 3 big nl-holdem w/ 3-5k people, and 1 or 2 omaha or stud limit with a max. # of 1k-1500 entries. I don't play UB but i think they have 2 weekly? or daily? at like 4am est and 3:15pm? can't confirm.

Satellite into another game typically means that the winner automatically is entered into another tournamnet (usaully higher stakes), e.g. the WSOP has numerous satellite tournaments where if you win, you get into the WSOP (without having to pay the 10K). Moneymaker won an online satellite tournament to get into the 03 WSOP.

Basically, it means the prize at the tournament is a seat at a bigger tournament. . .
