So, flight's booked. Room's reserved. Are we ready to rock?
Looking forward to this... a $5000 event and possible tv exposure. And a chance to retire early. Or really have a little cash to play the big game with Phil and Barry... or maybe even the heads up event with Negreanu at the Wynn.
Hopefully, I'll be able to grind out some cash in the next two months... I'll keep this post updated on my progress.

So what does this mean, Sal? You've won an entry into it, you're going to go up and try to win your way in, you are going to buy your way in?
Good luck in any event.

I wish you better luck than I have had of late Sal... actually, that's not saying enough. I wish you a LOT more luck.
We need a player with a major tournament win under his belt at this forum anyhow.

Update: So, Adam's definitely coming along. Woot! We'll definitely have some fun now. I wonder what strip clubs they have in Reno....
I was freaking out a little about putting up the money to play in this thing... gonna have to combine a little bit of money from the poker bankroll, the savings account, and some income from work. I do intend to play some kind of satellite once I get there, but I think this way I'll definitely have a spot locked up for myself. Can't go all that way to not play you know. Hey, I guess I could prostitute myself on eBay and sell a piece of my action, eg Dutch Boyd. You guys want a piece of me? I did quite well in the last league freeroll. Plus, I'm in the top three of the League Standings.

You know I'd stake you if I could Mike. I'm pretty sure you and Adam can make it your own so DO IT!!!! You need some new pics of you at a lit table like last year. This should be nice.

good luck!! I'm 2 hours from Reno, so in the slim chance that i'm up there I'll look you up... :D

Sal sorry buddy your not my type... . I prefer females... ...and this isn't Broke Back Mountain.
I wish I could be there to play or watch as well. I think it would be great and loads of fun to set with the big dogs like Brunson, Chan and others. I would stake you as well but right now I couldn't stake a flea in a $0.02 flea bath.

We'll go to the strip club instead. I just did a quick search online... how about "the pink pussycat"?

If the cards don't turn out, the skiing's probably great this time of year...a little spring break action on the slopes.
Do as well as you can with the cards you're dealt. Looking forward to reports.

I might head up to Reno this weekend myself to find some good games, and maybe play a satellite for the Event... I'll post more if this ends up happening, maybe we can have a mini THP meeting.

Everything's cool here right now. I'm a little drunk, and I only have 10 minutes left to make this post. ($5 for 15 minutes in business conferecnece center.)
So, much to say really... the highlight I just called Adam about. Basically, I made a mistake and thought that today was the supersatellite day. NO, I was wrong. Today, was actually the $2000 buy in tournament. I needed something to do for the rest of the day, and this lady announces that there is a $220 single table satellite... first place wins $2000 in tournament chips plus another $100 in cash. Well, yours truly won the mo' fo'. It's such a huge high really... it's like.. instant bankroll. After winning that I really wasn't sure if I wanted to play in the $2000 tournament. That win really puts me at +$700. I had busted out in the first hour of the $1,000 tournament, lost a $120 sit n' go, but made $140 in a 4/8 game. So, I decided to go with the easy route, and just use the satellite chips to take 3 or 4 shots at the big one. Then, I can very comfortably play cash games for the rest of the time or play some of the small buy in tourneys.
Man, I never had so much fun winning that one sit n' go though. It was with 10 minute rounds... this was all about an hour before the beginning fo teh 2000 tournament. Maybe, about 15 minutes before the start of the bigger tourney, that lady came by and said we had to cut the rounds down to 5 minutes... okay with me... let's gamble! Teh chip leader had about 6000 in chips, me with over 2000, and some other dude with about another1500. I ended up busting the chip leader... my ace 8 held up against his ace 5 all in. Funnny, the turn was the 5 and my river the 8. The other guy was way too short stacked.... he's all in with the big blind at 1200. I call automatically. Basically, he gets 9 6 suited,... i get pocket queens! Better to be lucky than good! Well, off to more drinks and waiting for Adam to get into town.
Posted Sat Mar 25, 2006 5:58 pm GMT by Geno
Great job man, I really hope some of that $2K tourney chips gets you into the main event :D

An update for ya. We both played the $500+$40 Super Satellite at 11:00 am today. Blinds were a tad fast for my tastes with the 20 minute levels, but I just played tight and waited to double up. I doubled once when my 99 raced a KJs, and raced again later with TT against AK, which I lost. Oh well. There's another one here at 6:00 pm. There are tons of SnG's on the side, from $100+ to $500+ which I might take a taste of here in 20 minutes. We'll see what happens. Thanks for the cheers
Posted Sun Mar 26, 2006 6:54 pm GMT by General Sal
Thanks, mates, for all the words of encouragement. After I'd bustedout of the tournament with Adam, I'd played another sit n go, 500 plus 40. One winner. I like my chances there better than the multi table . Plus, there's a lot less headache about a bubble and what not. Your fate is decided within an hour and a half.
I've got two more shots at this with the tournament chips I'd won. I'm probably gonna play in the next hour another sit n' go. Wish me luck there. Even if I don't get in with these two shots, I'm thinking of playing sit n' gos, and just rollingup the money from there. As for now, I still feel like I'm freerollling, so I feel pretty confident.
Yesterday, I'd done completely nothing as far as poker after I won that sit n' go. I just layed in bed, and dreamt of the possibilities. Didn't want to ruin that high. I'll update again after the next two sit n' gos.

f*ck super satellites.
I just went out in the second level (25/50 blinds) of the 9pm multi-table super satellite to the main event. I'm in the cutoff, everyone folds to the guy to my right who raises it to 125 preflop. I've got JJ. I just call. SB folds, BB calls. The flop is T62 rainbow. BB checks, guy bets 125. I raise to 425. BB folds, guy calls. Turn is an 5, putting two to a suit on the board. Guy checks, I bet 500 of my remaining 1150. Guy thinks for a second and calls. River is a non-flushable 3. Guy goes all-in. Pot odds are right, I have to call. I say, "What do you have, queens or something?"
He flips 53o.
I say the word "Cheeky" and shake his hand and hold on to it a moment longer than is normal as I think about crushing it. I let go and walk away questioning the existence of god.
I'm 0 for 3 in multi-table tournies today and quite sad.

Wow Adam, that's horrible..
If I had been paying attention, I might have been there to meet you guys. I'm only 2 hours from Reno.
Posted Mon Mar 27, 2006 3:29 pm GMT by General Sal
So, the main event's underway... and I'm not in it. Took my shots, but I feel all the better for it, 'cause I found myself playing games I don't normally play.
Adam's just started about 25 minutes ago... and he seems to be in a good frame of mind. He's been a little bit bummed about his run of cards yesterday, but I think he'll do fine today.
I haven't really been around to see one of these things get started in awhile... funny who you pass into... like Daniel Negreanu at the elevator, Paul Darden in the hallway of your hotel, Carlos Mortensen standing in line behind Adam, waiting to register a seat. They told me Phil Ivey showed up... so that's exciting. Looks like about 500 people are playing inthis one.
Look to the world poker tour website for general updates. I'll get what I can from Adam every hour or so. I told him I wouldn't shadow him.
Oh, yeah, Liz Lieu is a blonde now... man she's has a smoking body. Screw Tila Tequila.

The Marshall Fires Back
So, I go downstairs to see how Adam's doing. He's in the middle of a
hand... flop is King, Queen, Jack. Pot's sizable... maybe $1000 in it.
Three players. Fat buddha kid bets into Adam on the button. Adam's
on the button... he thinks, raises to $800. Cowboy in first position
had checked, so he raises another $1,000... buddha raises again another
thousand. Adam moves all in too.... the cowboy folds. Buddha opens up
8 9 unsuited for the flopped straight. Adam opens up Ace 10 for the flopped
straight. Marshall takes down a pot of about 7k.
Unfortunately, he'd taken a hit earlier to the tune of 6k, so now he's up
to 11K.

Got something a little screwy there general. 89JQK isn't a str8. But I understand what you meant. Let's hope Adam keep it up. That site you posted sure doesn't update very fast.

Go, Adam, Go!
Posted Mon Mar 27, 2006 4:34 pm GMT by General Sal
Yeah, I think I screwed it up. Buddha had the bottom end of the straight though. I think it was 9 10. Also, it was Adam who went all in... cowboy check raised, buddha reraised, then Adam went all in. I hate typing on someone's else's computer... plus, his computer overheats and shuts down. Ugh.
they just went on break and Adam told me that ... and this is funny... to his left is Josh Arieh! I didnt even notice.

Anyone know Adams last name? Someone named Adam is listed as being knocked out. Hope it's not the Marshall
Posted Mon Mar 27, 2006 9:34 pm GMT by General Sal
Well, I just woke up from my nap. Adam just walked in... he's still in it.
He has a little over 20K in chips, by the break! He said, "I'm rich, bi@#$%es!"
Posted Mon Mar 27, 2006 10:52 pm GMT by General Sal
Adam's back in the swing of things again, as the tournament has just gotten underway. We figure he has an M of 25 or so, for the next 80 minutes. (Say "I" if you know what I mean.)
I walked around, railbirding some of the action. I saw a John Juanda sitting in seat 4 and Phil Ivey in a seat 9. A player had been moved into their table at Seat 1. Well, I know I wouldn't want to be that guy.
I went back up to the elevator, and during the ride I went back up witht this cute girl I met at Johnny Rockets the morning before. I felt something. (Hey, I have to write about something other than poker... like babes!)
More a little bit later....
Posted Mon Mar 27, 2006 11:46 pm GMT by Adam Marshall
I donked off a ton of chips and then ran into aces when I had queens. The flop wasn't kind enough to contain an escape ace or king, so I'm out. I believe I'll get drunk now.

Well, it's now time to recover as much money/ make as much money as possible out here. The cards fell well, and I played well out here.... I think I gotta better idea of what I need to do next in the poker career. Overall, I think this is somewhat of a life altering trip for me... you'll really love poker once you come to one of these events and take some kind of stab at it. Thanks to all for the support... on to the next tournament... the Five Diamond World Poker classic.
