How did I play this hand

Posted Sat Feb 11, 2006 9:56 am GMT by domic1000
This is my first post on this forum. Firstly, I have to say I just started playing poker recently and this was my first poker tournament in the casino. I am a beginner and I hope to learn what has occured in one of the hands that I went out on...

It was fairly early in the game, the blinds were 25/50. I won the previous hand and I think I had about 1600 chips( everyone started with 1500 chips). I think I got overexcited about winning the previous hand with a bluff that worked. Anyways, I had pocket sixes, I called, someone raised, I called and the guy next to me called. Maybe I shouldn't have called after the raise. Anyway, there are 3 players, let's call them player A, player B, player C and I am player B since I am second to act. The flop comes 6, 3, J... As soon as I saw 6, I thought this is great. Player A checks(player A is the guy who raised) and I checked thinking I should slowplay and player C betted $100 which was called by player A and myself. The turn card was 9. Once again, player A checks and I bet $300, player C raises to $600 and player A goes all-in with $1300. I decided to call, but probably if I thought a bit more I would have folded, and player C calls as well. So now it's between myself and player C.. the river card is 8. Since I was commited, I went all-in with 325 and he called. I showed my triple sixes, and player C shows triple nines... For the record, player A had triple threes. How would you have played this hand? Once again, I am basically a beginner and I hope to improve..

Thanks for your time

No suites involved or raise amounts preflop, so I'll take it a very generic approach to this hand history.

It is not very likely to run into multiple sets in NL, 3 handed to the flop and each one having a set is VERY rare, in this hand you were supposed to go broke, and you did.

No shame in going broke with a set to a bigger set, it's remarkably hard to put someone on a set. Watch Poker on TV with pro's and watch how often they lay down the losing set, it just doesn't happen often, and these guy do it for a living....what chance do you have?

Welcome to the forum. I agree with Jauron's post above, and as he said, there are some things missing from your hand history making it hard to give hard analysis.

1. Position.
2. Bet sizes.
3. Suits of the cards (if you remember).
4. The stack sizes of the other players (roughly atleast).

There is usually nothing wrong with going broke with a set, and a fold on that turn would have been horrible. So no problem with the postflop play (in my opinion), but without the rest of the information it is hard to give any analysis on the preflop play.

Hmmm. I think most people would have gone broke on that one. Not really a str8 draw on the board and you make no mention of a flush draw. Looks to me like you played it the right way. The cards were just rough on you.
