I've been watching a LOT of older tournaments lately and one thing strikes me about not knowing what the players hole cards are, it's damn exciting!
Now i love to watch modern poker and i love to know what they are playing, so it got me wondering...
Obv. hole cameras are in part responsible for the boom in poker but, are they really that important to your viewing pleasure?

I agree with you, I've seen some of the old tourneys and it is fun to watch trying to guess what they have. But I think the hole cams is what has brought so many people to the tables.
It is also interesting to watch how many times T.J Cloutier has been bad beat at the wrong time.

Yes, I enjoy Poker a lot more knowing the hole cards. Because I often use TV Poker to try to improve my game, it helps to know how each person played their cards from start to finish and analyze their decisions.

While it might be interesting to watch a hand or two without knowing the cards, just to see if you could guess 'em, I would have a hard time watching a tournament all the way through without being able to see the cards.

I saw a kind of “reality TV meets poker” show a few months ago where they tried to train up random people to play SnG’s. In that instance the cameras were fantastic because their play was so bad you got some great commentary to go along with it

i agree that hole cameras add a bit more excitement to viewing, but i also enjoy watching the older events and not knowing what they have.
