EXtracting $$ on a set....

Posted Mon Feb 13, 2006 1:18 pm GMT by pokerpup
Hi All, I had this hand come up on the weekend and didn't think I played it up to it's full potential. Maybe I gave out the wrong message?? Fairly new to the table so no real read.

25NL 0.10/0.25 (10 players)...

Hero ($22)
Villain ($55)

UTG+1 Hero dealt Eight of SpadesEight of Clubs Villain in CO

UTG Folds, Hero Calls, 2 other Calls, 2 folds, Villain Calls, SB completes and BB checks

Flop Eight of Diamonds King of Clubs Ace of Spades

Hero bets 0.75, 2 folds, Villain min. Raise to 1.50, 2 folds, Hero Calls 0.75... was really comtemplating a reraise to see if he really had the Ace or just on a draw of somekind. But my read on that min. raise is Ax suited; where x<J

Turn Eight of Diamonds King of Clubs Ace of Spades Four of Diamonds

Hero Checks, Villain Bets 1.00, Hero Reraise to 4.00, as the clock is about to run out Villain Calls. Wasn't sure if this is the spot to rerasise or to just smooth call the bet. But by him calling the raise, I have to put him at least on A Q or J possibly Ax of d

River Eight of Diamonds King of Clubs Ace of Spades Four of Diamonds Six of Spades
Pot is $12.50

Hero??

What's your move to extract the most $$. Maybe my turn raise might given the strenght of my hand away?? How would the Guru's play this hand, all comments appreciated. Thanks!

Yep. Thats what I would do here too. Hope he reads that as weakness and comes over the top with a reraise.

I like your line so far in the hand btw. Very nice pot building in an unraised pot! Smooth! Smile

Wow you guys are sharp as nails and would have read me like a book :D ...I ended up betting $8 and villain folded Sad ...I was having second thoughts of maybe betting $5 or so to make really look like a bluff. Maybe I should have done the Hollywood thing and taken my entire clocked time and then bet. Who knows, I really hoping he would come over the top Twisted Evil Oh well....Thanks I feel better about the way I played it now!

Thanks for the complements, I was hoping for a few more callers or a bigger raise from the villain which then I could call/reraise. With someone deepstacked, I was assuming that he would only play if the pot was large enough for him steal. But since he only min. raise I had to give him a line and look him on the turn and the river. I thought I had hooked him with a larger reraise and a call, but somehow he managed to get away Sad ...there's always other ones to catch I guess. Thanks for all the input!
