Good Push or no

$50NL ($.25/$.50) @ Party, I have $35-40 or so and havent played many hands. I limp w/ J Diamond 10 Diamond and call a raise to $2 with 4 others.

Flop A Spade 9 Diamond 8 Diamond so, I am on a open ended str8 flush draw. UTG comes out for $3, I smooth call, one more smooth calls, LP raise to $10 (about 1/2 pot), UTG folds, I move all in. Other smooth caller calls and LP folds.

Now, I have a HUGE draw but am likely behind. There is a good amount in the pot, but should I have moved in and tried to take down the pot or just call and see if I can triple up if I hit?

I don't think there's any way you're going to push out both remaining players, but assuming you had enough in your stack that pushing would get rid of a higher diamond draw, then I like it. It looks like you did, but I didn't actually do any of the math.

Thats the game I have been playing lately and you played it the same way I would have. Are you playing short handed tables Dave? (Thats what I have been playing. It suits my "looser" style.)

My concern here is that your flush draw is dead, as MJJ said. Still, this is usually a good push because you're a favorite over a lot of made hands at this point. If your opponent has the A-diamond draw, you're drawing to only 8 outs instead of 15. But if he only has one diamond or a set, your hand may actually be a slight favorite.

Overall, I don't mind the push, because you will be guaranteed to see the next two cards for the same price with a huge draw.

This is a situation I would push in as well- I have been wondering if it is a hole in my game though, seems like I see hands that cut my outs in half more often than I would like...
Guess i should go back to playing somewhere that I can run poker tracker.

So Dave,
What happened in the hand?

I made a str8 on the turn, he rivered a boat w/ 88

Well, guess the Poker Gods were against you on that hand-
Even if you hadn't pushed the flop you would have probably gone AI on the turn or had to call their AI on the river.

As I have thought about this hand a little more, I think you need to push with that flop- if you don't push (or fold to someone else's push) you have to ask yourself why you are playing the hand in the 1st place- 15 outs to a str8 and/or flush is about the best flop you could hope for with 10 J suited, if you aren't willing to play it with this flop you shouldn't play it preflop.
