The Flop of Three Kings

Posted Tue Feb 14, 2006 4:05 pm GMT by Lethargic Dolt
Was playing home game past weekend. Was dealt pocket Aces. Pushed to 3x the big blind and got 2 callers. Flop came up 3 K's, which gave me boat K's over A's. Pushed the bet again for 2x big blind and got one caller. Next card was dead, checked along, and last card was a dead card and I bet out (2x Big Blind) and was re-raised with other player all-in. I was big stack so covered the bet with pretty good bit of chips left to play with.

Other player is very tight player, so i figured he had caught either the turn or river or was holding high pocket pair since he had called the 3x big blind (thought 10's or better). Blinds were 150/300 at the time.

Made call took big hit as he had other King. Felt that I had to make the call. Still recovered enough to take second out of eleven players, but was very humbling experience. Figured there was only one card in the deck I could lose to....

Made for some exciting poker though, definitely got the adrenaline going for a few hands after that.

Pocket Rockets, you got to love them. They either make you or break you.

Personally when I get the rockets I try never to slow play them. I push pre-flop with them at a 4-6xBB bet. Your 3xBB bet might have been small enough for that player with the K in the hole to stay in and play. 4-6xBB would probably have gotten him to lay it down.

Tough break but good playing to still finish second.... :D .

Doh! The one card in the deck. That bites. Way to keep you head after that tough hand and take second.

Had a very similer hand at our homegame the other day. Blinds are very high and it's kind of become a pushfest.

Limp, Large Stack Pushs, Short stack calls All-In, All-In, original limper (also short stack) calls.

77 vs. AK vs. AQ vs. AA

Flop KK5. It's all over.

If you're thinking about post-flop bets as a certain number of big blinds, you probably aren't betting enough.

Post flop bets are usually stated in reference to the current pot size.

ie. pot size bet, 1/2 pot, etc...

A bet of 3xBB after the flop or so is usually too small.

Roger that...I'm borderline retarded sometimes.

Absolutely. But in this case, I would have kept the bets small so as not to scare anyone away. I actually would want as many calls as I could get.
