So i was sitting at a $10 no limit table at royal vegas poker (online)

blinds are .05/.10... i catch AA in the big blind... there were 2 callers, when its my turn to act i raise it to $0.50

the button calls.... flop 9-10-3 rainbow

i bet $.80... dealer calls. im thinking maybe he has top pair good kicker or something? maybe not cause perhaps he couldve raised if he did..

turn is a 4... i bet $2.20... dealer calls again.... now im thinking "what is this man doing?"... maybe hes got a set and is smooth calling?

river is a 7.. i bet another $3,.. he moves all in for like 4 more dollars.. i call

he held 6-8 and rivered a straight... Sad

what the hell was this guy doing calling a pre-flop raise of 5 X BB with 6-8 offsuit?

then calling $.80 AND $2.20 with a horrible inside straight draw? damn i felt bad afterwards

what do you people think about this? any way i couldve played it better?

by the way this is my first post so hello to all!

Welcome to the forum. :D

When you're playing such low limits, you have to expect people to play somewhat poorly. I, personally, play those low limits on my drunken nights and when I'm trying out a new theory or style of play. I don't think I'm alone in this.

My question to you is, don't you want him calling you with a gutshot all the way down? I'm not saying it was good that he hit on the river, but I would love to have a player calling me all the way down with 4 outs. You played the hand well but he got lucky. Such is poker. They can't catch you all the time, so keep playing well and it will pay off in the long run.

Remember, there are poker players and there are gamblers, though one in the same, they are two totally different styles of players. I'll play with the gamblers any day of the week if I get to choose.

yeah, well i had registered for an account there because you get a free $10... so i sat down firstly with $4 at those 05/.10 no limit tables... and went up to like $24 in no time.. then that happened again and again... so i didnt see a good reason not to keep playing at those tables.

and yeah, i guess i should be happy with such players because they pay me off most of the time...

You ran into a player who is currently infected with "Gus Hansenitis". In other words, you found a moron who thinks he is great by playing weak hands.

Then again, sometimes you find players who are willing to pay off.

Not saying yoy did. This guy was a moron. And you played the hand like you should.

But the idea of hold'em is too leave the pot with the best hand. And this is something often forgotten by alot of players who complains about bad beats. Alot of bad beats are in fact hands played piss poorly by the guy who felt he was bad beat, but cleverly forgets that he paid villain of handsomely on the river and that clever move in fact turned the 'bad play' into a 'good play'.

But I state again, this wasn't one of those hands!

I'm just ranting a little about the whole war on people who 'call with a lesser hand' preflop in NL. This isn't limit hold'em, implied odds are the masters of our hand and and it isn't a tourney, we can easily replenish our stack to the full buy-in if we drop a few BBs.
