We are conducting academic research about female college students who play Hold 'Em. We are interested in how you got started, how often you play, with whom, and where. What have your experiences been in this very masculine game? Do you feel you are treated differently? Do you think men and women play differently? What are your interactions like with other players?

Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? Be it by sharing experiences or simply asking for help, participation in a forum helps you focus and keep 'on topic' which will help you improve your game. You can learn from other players feedback and from their experiences. Why the THP poker forums? We offer one of the best managed texas holdem poker forums available, and the community within is far more friendly than those typicaly found on other sites. We've made a 'lurkers edition' of the poker forum available here on Holdem Poker Online, but we encourage all visitors to register and join in on the conversations on TexasHoldem-Poker.com

Looks like a spam stub. Lets see if any sexy, college girl, poker players reply.
Probably with a link to their blog

Well, I usually assume if a woman I don't know is playing, that she will know what she's doing. AND usually she will take men too lightly. I count on a female player to do two things until I know better: Know how to play and assume a male player is being too aggresive. (that's the stereotype the woman poker player seems to have of men)
But then, I'm smart. I'm sure there's a whole pack of poker players of both genders that conform completely to sterotypes about them.

We are still waiting to hear about the experiences of female college students who play holdem poker. So far we have only heard from men giving very abstract views on women players. Are there any women who are in college on this forum who could enlighten us a little on your experiences in playing this game? Are there any men who have girlfriends or wives who they could ask their opinion on this topic and provide us with some answers?
Cheers

I don't think women play poker; it's bad for their ovaries. But some men elect to have female avatars. It's easy to confuse the two.
I kid, of course. From what I know there aren't any college ladies on here.

That's actually better than most men to be honest. Most don't realize that the breasts don't interfere with the brain.
Peak, I'm a female player but I have been out of college for some time now. I never played when I was there. I was too busy getting drunk. :D

I know, we should all be barefoot and pregnant cooking dinner for you and not able to think for ourselves. It's a crying shame. What happened to the good old days?

I always figured that if God wanted men to admire women for their intelligence and not their beauty He would have made them with two heads and one breast.

Maybe I should change this to say that breasts don't interfere with our brains. The male brain can usually think of little else when he has a nice rack in his face.

I find it admirable that you even noticed we have heads.
No apolgies necessary, Sid. It's all in good fun.

Girls, like bugs, have some sort of idea that God played a huge trick on them, but have too dim a perception as to the true magnitude of it.

I'd like to thank everyone who posted above me in this thread for giving me the most amusement I've had all day
just wondering though what makes poker such a mans game? I'm a man myself but I can see no good reason why poker is refferred to as a hugely masculine game? if by that the poster meant that it is played mostly by men then it is understandable! but to me its just like any other card or board game- not in by means of gameplay or amusement, but by means of anyone being able to play!
later:)

I think there are two reasons for this.
1. History has shown mostly men playing poker. It was a "boy's night out" thing or played in a bar/pub/saloon where the women who were there weren't there for a beer and some cards but to render their services and collect from the drunk man who won a lot.
2. The majority of poker players are men. This is changing somewhat, but women are still a huge minority in the game. We are not really encouraged to play either. We're supposed to just sit behind our man and look pretty or stay home and watch the kids.
Supa,
I like the quote. It's probably true to some extent, but being a woman has its advantages as well. Flash a pretty smile, a little leg and some cleavage and most men will do anything you want them to do. Also, we get to say when and where when it comes to sex. You guys have to work for it. :D

there's apparantly nothing macho-er than showing down a worse hand after a big successful bluff or making another man incapable of feeding and supporting his family. that's prolly why all you old-timers feel it's a mans game.
I wouldn't know. I play it online. That's about as macho as Starcraft.

It's okay, honey, you'll be old enough to play for real soon enough. They grow up so fast. *sigh*
BTW, did you want that on white or wheat?

Sadly I am old enough to play, where I live. I've just been a big old puddy tat and chickened out from going. Gonna be hard to slow down to just 1 table. I may die of boredom.
