Tournament Hand

Posted Mon Feb 20, 2006 11:53 pm GMT by Ciso_B
Ok , this hand is mtt hand against a tight guy. He rarely limps, and when he does hes likely to have KJ,KT,QJ,AT or smal pair im guessing. I laid JJ to him about 20 mins before this hand and he had AK, and won the hand all in preflop vs AQ.

My guess is big pair + flush draw, 77, 88, 99. And no I don't think he can be bluffed. He just put a quarter of his stack on the line for a big check/raise. I don't think he can be bluffed, but maybe anything is possible.

Two scenarios here:
1) He assumes you probably missed the flop and were making a standard continuation bet and you will fold. The problem here is that you said he is a tight player, so would he really take this risk?
2) He actually has the goods. Could he have possibly limped with A9?

I personally would just give up the hand and move on.

Judging by your description of the player, I have to agree. He's got something. I wouldn't invest more in this pot.

This is not the best spot to try for a play, any sort of raise you would make here commits you to the pot, but if you lay it down, you're still in good shape.

Is tens a possibility for this guy? Or do you think he is raising with tens?

No , I thought hed come in for a riase with a hand like TT. The blinds and antes are worth picking up the pot with and TT would definitely be legitimate.

When he check raised me , I was thinking he may have had something good. I thought perhaps picture cards flush draw, or A 9, or 99 ? But then I thought nah hed check/call with 9s full. So it led me to thinking either he has underpair the 9,A9 though even this is a bit loose for him or nothing, oh and the flush draw. A few hands when he limped , id raise with position confident I could take it post flop. So i think maybe he thought i was weak (which is correct lol).

I thought, if he has flush draw hes prolly willing to gamble with it even if i re raise all in. I have to sell a big pair , so i min riased back on him. (very dangerous) Now i know if he has underpair or flush draw he is unlikely to re raise, if he has flush draw hes got odds and will smooth call. Then if turn comes blank i can push and hed have to fold either right?

So he just called the min raise like i thought he might do, the turn came off 7 spades I think, and I pushed , he thought for awhile before folding.

Good place for a bluff considering the preflop action, only thing he could have here that hit seem to be nines, and anything else he wants to put his stack on seems unreasonable considering the preflop action. The paired board is excellent, since it reduces the amount of reasonable hands he could have hit the flop with. The C/R is scary, but alot of people will C/R with PPs that miss on that board, hoping to get overs to fold.

I probably gun it harder on the flop if I bluff here, but that's me and alot of people may actually be more inclined to call that. Though I'd gun it hard with a legitimate hand too.
