2 interesting 6/12 limit hand, played poorly IMO

1) guy on my left loved played any 2 cards suited and was down $1k in under 3 hours. Here is how he played it, and why it was really, really dumb:

K Heart 7 Heart flop Q Spade 9 Heart 3 Heart lots of action preflop and on the flop- big pot. K7 had raised from late position and taken control of the hand.

Turn J Club checked to K7, he bets out on his draw and is check raised. He calls

River 10 Heart check raiser bets out, K7 calls w/ 2nd nuts.

Now, here is the hack move. When asked why he didnt raise, he said that he was worried about the nut flush. An idiot is worried about the nut flush, a decent player looks at the board and the check raise in a HUGE pot where you arent likely to buy it and asks what hand could he possibly have that would justify a raise on the turn and still have the nut flush. It just isnt likely.

Next:

Raise pot-2 or 3 times player in position w/ A Heart K Heart

flop Q Heart J Heart 10 Club , it goes 2 bets on the flop

Turn K Club , now, the player w/ the AK is a smart player, which is why this really shocked me. Betting goes 4 bets before AK slows down. He let me "sweat" the hand with him, so when he just called, I was SHOCKED. Why would he slow down with the boardway and nut flush draw. Since he raised preflop and the board was KQJ10, no one would really 4 bet without an Ace. So the guy has an Ace something. That means that the AK suited hearts is freerolling. This donk against him would have gone 7-8 bets before slowing down.

Even if he had KK QQ JJ or 10s, with one card to come, you are still a 80% favorite and that is worth getting all your money out IMO.

I see this stuff a lot online. People are too quick to just click click click and not really evaluate hands. These are easy reads and leaving one or two big bets on the table every hour or two can really hurt your performance long term.

Dave,

I agree with you on hand 1. He had the near nut flush. The only card that could beat him was A Heart but if your going to play the flush then be ready to bet the flush as well.

Hand 2 I might understand why this player backed off. Those 2 Ks on the board could be scarry if someone has trips. They just made the nut hand in a full house. I ran into a string of these types of hands myself not too long ago and it cost me in 3 tournaments and a couple buy-ins at a ring game. Luckily I am still mainly in the mini-micros and a downward spiral doesn't hurt as bad as it would playing at these types of levels.

the board one the 2nd hand was KQJ10, any Ace was the nuts at this point.

I should point out that he did river the flush and take 100% of the pot. Their was only one bet on the river. Since there is NO WAY the other guy folds the nuts, there was no reason not to 5 bet the turn w/ his flush freeroll. The other guy did have an Ace and was drawing to a tie at best.

BTW-live game heads up so no cap on raises.

That guy in the first hand should really consider NOT playing any two suited, if that is how he is going to play them. Smile

And the second hand is pretty bad, and I see of it online like you do too. People have killer hands, even the nuts at times, but when faced with extreme aggression they just slow down. I think some do it on 'instinct' because they multitable and just click/click without thinking...others I think the aggression they face just shuts them down or something. At low stakes I have experienced being called on the river when I bet out, and the other player holds the nuts...usually straights actually...and they haven't seemed like totally new players before that either.
