Chips...to begin a game with, and 10 people playing.

Hi I have a 500 piece chip set, with values assigned to them of $5,$10$25,$50,$100 and $500

I was wondering how much should be the average starting value of chips that my friends and I should start to play with?

Usually we ignore the $5 and $10 and make them the $1000 and $5000 with a total starting value of $1300 dollars.
is that about average...or are we giving out to much cash to start with.

Depends on your set and the game. How many of each? And with 13,000 total on the table to start why do you need 1000 and 5000 chips? Do you have lots of rebuys?

One thing to consider is that you want to have enough high-value chips to color up, i.e. change out for lower value chips as the blinds raise. So you could count up your two highest value chips, and divide by ten to get the highest amount you could start with and still color up to the top two values. If you allow 1 rebuy then half that etc.

Good luck, have fun.

I would start with $1000 each, with blinds at $5 and $10. That way everyone starts with 100 bb, and you won't have to change the value for your lowest chips.

ummmmmmm with 10 ppl u could do anywhere form starting out with 1500 chips or 10000 chips, however, some of the values u start with are quite useless and redundant if you will. Basicaly there is no point to have 5 and 10, having a vaule the double of another is useless ( 2 many chips may cause confusion) at my home games we use 4 values at max with chip values at 5 25 and 100.
